September and October

Howdy! I´ve been harvesting grapes. In my vineyard. That´s why I´m just here to say goodbye and why some kids start school later than they should.

¡Hola! He estado vendimiando la uva.

Say ´bye! I´m the one who gets to say howdy, because it´s almost tomorrow. I´m going to harvest my pumpkins. In my pumpkin patch. I´ve been harvesting pumpkins since Columbus discovered America. By the way, Spain paid him to do that. And he did it in October. On the 12th.
Voy a cosechar calabazas.

The Thane

I won´t say my name. I´ve had enough bad luck already. And thru the fault of these ladies. They said I could be king of Scotland if I wanted to.

No diré mi nombre. Ya he tenido bastante mala suerte.

No. We said you could be king of Scotland but that it wouldn´t be worth your while.

The Thane

I was dying to be king. So I went home and murdered my friend King Duncan who had come to sleep over at my house.

Lady M.

I´m his wife. I´m a good wife. A good wife helps her husband prosper. I encouraged him to murder Duncan. "You want to be king? Go for it," I said. I´m a good wife.

Spiridoola

He was dead set on being king. There was nothing we could say to persuade him he was better off without a crown.

We warned him that he could build a throne of bayonets but that he wouldn´t be able to sit on it. Which part of what we said didn´t you understand?

The Thane

Bother the baronets! I didn´t need them. I could make myself king on my own!

¡A la porra los baronetes! Yo no les necesitaba. ¡Podía hacerme rey yo solito!

Luxviminda

This man can´t tell a bayonet frome a baronet. Maybe that´s what he didn´t understand. When were bayonets invented? After his time? Our mistake? Our mistake!

The Thane

Once I was king, I was miserable. Everybody was scared of me. Nobody trusted me because they suspected I had killed my friend. There were people who wanted to eliminate me as soon as possible. So I started to kill everyone I thought might want to kill me.

Siendo rey me sentía fatal.

Lady M

I couldn´t take the pressure. I snapped. I couldn´t look at my hands without thinking there was blood on them. I washed them and I washed them, but in my madness, I always saw blood on them.

Spiridoola

He was desperate. So he asked us what he could do. We told him it was too late, But he insisted. So, to console him, we said he would at least be safe until Birnam Wood climbed up Dunsinane Hill and reached his castle.

Estaba desesperado.

The Thane

They spoke in riddles. They told me no man born of woman could kill me. I thought I was safe. I thought there was no man that wasn´t born of woman. I went home happy. They fooled me.

Me fui a casa contento. Me engañaron.

Luxviminda

This time it was your mistake. Julius Caesar lived long before your time. If you had studied a little history you would have remembered that they cut his mother´s womb and tore him out. That´s why a caesarean birth is called caesarean.

The Thane

Why didn´t you just tell me MacDuff would kill me? Why didn´t you just say his men would cut down the trees of Birnam Wood to camouflage themselves while they climbed up Dunsinane Hill to attack my castle?

The Sisters

You´ve got to do some of the work! We can´t do everything for you! If you want to learn, you´ve got to use your brain!

The Thane

Witches! Good for nothing witches!

¡Brujas! ¡Brujas inútiles!

Sabática

We don´t have to take this. We´re leaving!

No tenemos porque aguantar esto. ¡Nos vamos!

Mungo Binky

Just a second! I didn´t get to ask my question!

¡Un segundo! ¡Yo no he podido hacer mi pregunta!

Spiridoola

Fatna salmons ye wantin? Hoo monie?

(En escocés) ¿Cuantos salmones necesitas? ¿Cuantos?

Mungo Binky

Fuftie thoosan! To begin with.

(En escocés) ¡Cincuenta mil! Para empezar.

Luxviminda

Hoot! I´m not opening a fish hatchery. I can hardly handle one salmon. We shallna dae it!

(En escocés) ¡Uy, este! No pienso abrir una piscifactoría. Casi no puedo controlar a este único salmón. (En escocés) ¡No lo haremos!

Spiridoola

Ach! The laddie has gobbled up all the magic hazelnuts we feed MacMor with!

¡Ay!

Alpin

I think I´m going to puke!

¡Creo que voy a echar la pota!

Michael

That´s it, Alpin! I´m taking you home!

¡Se acabo, Alpin! ¡Te voy a llevar a casa!

Alpin

Unfair! I didn´t say Macbeth! Macbeth! Macbeth! Macbeth!

Injusticia! ¡No he dicho Macbeth! ¡Macbeth! ¡Macbeth! ¡Macbeth!

Am I going to die now? For saying Macbeth? How long do I have left? A minute? Two?

¿Voy a morirme ahora? ¿Por haber dicho Macbeth? ¿Cuánto tiempo me queda? ¿Un minuto? ¿Dos?

I grant us one sabatic year! We´re out of here!

¡Nos concedo un año sabático! ¡Nos fuimos!

I think the wee bairn - erh, the bonnie lad - wants us to speak in English-English.

Fine. We´ll start at the beginning. My name is Sabática. I´m the fariy woman that grants desperate teachers a sabatic year.

Vale.

Spiridoola

I´m Spiridoola. When television was invented, my beloved husband Donald was very enthusiastic. He slipped into a TV set to explore its educational possibilities. Now he is lost in a labyrinth of TV junk and he can´t find his way out. I always have the TV on because once in a while I hear his voice. He´s easy to recognize. He´s the only one that says something sensible.

Soy Espiridula.

MacMor is a minnow? He´s fat! He doesn´t look like a salmon. He looks like a globe fish.

¿MacMor es un pezqueñín? Está gordo. No parece un salmón. Parece un pez globo.

Luxviminda

Only very expert sushi cooks can prepare globe fish. You can be poisoned if you eat one that isn´t well cooked. MacMor isn´t the minnow. You are.

He´ll tell you in the next post. I´m starting to have trouble with this one.

Os lo dirá en la siguiente entrada. Estoy empezando a tener problemas con esta.

Meanwhile, look at the Grammar Broonie I bought for myself . You have to study some if you want to understand the sisters. The broonie sends you to the Scuil Wab.

I´m making lunch for the people who are out in the fields picking grapes for us. One of the dishes is potato omelet.

Michael

I love potatoes. Since 2008 has been declared the year of the potato, I´m posting the recipe for potato omelet right here. No two cooks make potato omelets the same way. Today, Doña Estrella has some green peppers she wants to make use of, so she´s using a recipe that includes them. We´re posting the recipe in English, but if you want to see the recipe in Spanish go to the place I got it from, Mr. Arguiñano´s page. He adds green pepper:

http://www.karlosnet.com/General/receta.php?c=1254

Two omelets for four people:

1 kilo potatoes
2 onions
1 green pepper
8 eggs
olive oil
salt

Peel the onions and the potatoes.
Dice the onions (the bits mustn´t be too wee and tiny) and fry until golden in a pan with a lot of olive oil.
Dice the potatoes, salt them a bit and add them to the onions on the frying pan.
Dice the green pepper and add that too.
Fry all the above, at medium heat, stirring most of the while until everything is golden.
Remove from the fire and dry a bit, to remove too much oil. (You can do this tossing the mix on paper napkins. Not too high and not too long. Be sure no paper gets mixed in.)
Prepare two bowls.
Beat four eggs in each bowl.
Put half the mixture of onions, potatoes and pepper in each bowl.
Put a little oil in a frying pan and pour in the contents of one bowl.
Wait until the egg hardens around the mix, then, with the help of a plate, turn the omelet over as if it were a pancake. Cook until both sides are golden.

Michael

Potato omelet sandwiches make great picnic food. We´ll enjoy them during the last days of summer, watching the first leaves fall, trembling a bit becuase of a breeze that´s a bit cooler and feeling kind of melancholy.

Alpin

I want a hundred of those omelets. I want a different cook to make each! That way I can judge which is best!

Why don´t you make one yourself and see what it tastes like? I´ll supervise, so you don´t get into trouble with Artemius.
