On the Eve of St. John the Baptist, folks in Spain would go into the fields to harvest seven herbs believed to have magical properties, herbs they would employ for mostly medicinal purposes throughout the whole year. While they were at it, they would also seek for a four leaf clover, luckiest leaf of all. Below, a children’s version of a song about this search for the little lucky leaf that we have translated to the English so you can sing along in this language too.
En la noche de San Juan Bautista, la gente salía a los campos para cosechar siete hierbas que se tenían por mágicas, hierbas que emplearían a lo largo del año, casi siempre porque tenían propiedades medicinales. Y mientras estaban en ello, también buscaban el trébol de cuatro hojas, la hojita más afortunada de todas.
