Coffee at the Karaoke / Café en el Karaoke

Mr. Binky is to meet with the psychics Gemaniah Worrywart and Minafer Ominous. They await him at the…

Sir Mungo J. Binky

I´ve never been to a karaoke before. I´m not sure it’s a good idea for me to be seen here. I confess I feel like I should be wearing dark glasses like those on the sun in the headboard. I’m really a terribly shy person. Well, you said you had something so important to tell me that it would be worth my while to show up here. What is it?

Minafer

You are going to love this. We have your Christmas gift from the Magi and you are about to receive it.

Esto le va a encantar. Tenemos su regalo de reyes. Y usted está a punto de recibirlo.

Sir Mungo John

What? I don’t understand.

¿Qué? No entiendo nada.

Gemaniah / Jemanías

The Magi left your Christmas gift under our tree next to our shoes because they didn’t have your address. You weren’t on their list ever before and they misplaced the envelope of the letter you sent them what with all the stress they had with the blank check affair.

Sir Mungo John

You are saying the Magi got my letter and left me a gift care of you? But…when was that? February is coming to its close.

Minafer

Well, the gift the Magi left us was to spend the winter in Hawaii. Haven’t you noticed our gorgeous tans? But now we are back and ready to get down to business.

Sir Mungo John

I can’t believe this. The Magi listened to me and actually left me a blank check?

Well, man, it´s not exactly that, but this gift will serve your purpose. They’ve left you a phone number. Mrs. Parry’s, to be precise.

Parry.

Sir Mungo John

But I already have that madwoman’s phone number. Oh. I didn’t mean to say that. I meant to say that grand old lady’s number. You see, she happens to be my grandfather’s great aunt and I know her very well. Of course, there is no fairy she isn´t related to.

Uy, no he querido decir eso. De esa gran dama, he querido decir.

Well, use it, friend. Tell Fairyland's granny all about your plans for the future.

Sir Mungo John

But she is a reactionary of the first water. She trembles like an aspen leaf when she hears the word “future” and then throws seven fits in a row.

Minafer

Well, use that to your advantage, man. There's nothing easier to control than those who would control. If she’s already afraid of the future, half your work is done. Explain how useful it will be to her to cooperate with you in controlling what is to come. By the way, when you see Oberon, tell him not to worry about his new daughter. She’s a true blue fairy and will grow up to make him and Titania very proud of her. And now, the owner of this place, who happens to be me,  would love to have you honour us with a song.

Imperative / El imperativo

Michael
How good we all are at using the imperative! All you have to do is yell the base form of the verb. Look how nicely this Buckingham Palace guard orders some kids to GET OFF THE FENCE!

Teddy Roosevelt

And should you feel hoarse, you can speak softly and carry a big stick.

Mini prize for the first to say what Teddy and the big stick are all about.

We found the image of Teddy in Images from the Internet.

Birth of a fairy / El nacimiento de un hada

Titania

I´ll take off my slippers and put on a pair of boots so my feet won’t get cold. That will have to do. I´ve no intention of dressing. I´m going out in my robe and nightgown.

No pienso vestirme. Voy a salir en camisón y bata.

Oberon

What are you murmuring? Hey! What are you doing up? Where are you going
at this time of night? It’s a freezing winter night, crazy.

¿Qué estás murmurando? ¡Eh! ¿Por qué te has levantado?

Titania

I know there´s something out there I crave for.

Oh. Well, get into bed, I’ll go for whatever it is. What is it? You have no idea? Well, I’ll take the first out of place thing I see. I’m sure that will be it.

Vaya.

Titania

No, you’ll want to keep it.

No, que luego te lo quieres quedar.

In the garden…

En el jardín…

Oberon / Oberón

Look! A ladybug eating clover. How strange in winter! Eh, there´s a whole trail of them. Let´s follow it.

Mira.

Titania

There it is. I´ve found what we are looking for. It´s in the lotus tree.

Ahí está. He encontrado lo que buscamos. Está en el árbol de loto.

Oberon / Oberón

Yes, I´ve seen it too. It´s in the pink flower.Well, it´s ours because we are the first to see it. That´s the law. Why didn’t you tell me we were expecting a baby?

Titania

I ordered one from Lucina, but she didn´t answer me. Tonight I had a hunch.

Indignant Tree / Arbol indignado

Are you going to stay out here all night arguing? The baby is turning blue. Do you want her to be another blue fairy or what? Take her inside if you want her. If not, we´re ready to take her below. She’ll be better off next to our roots than with folks like you.

Titania

Calm down, we´ll take over right now. Oberon, you climb up the tree and bring the baby down and carry it home. I’ll lead the ladybugs to the greenhouse. They won’t freeze there and they will find something to eat.

Helen did come down / Elena sí que bajó

For February, a very romantic song: "Lady, Come Down."

Oscar Wilde

I wrote a poem about how the Trojan prince Paris felt while he was waiting in his galley for Greek Helen to show up for her date to elope with him. I also wrote the funniest play ever. Its title is "The Importance of Being Earnest." And it was first produced on Valentine's Day, 1895. Somebody made a film version of it, and my poem became a song that became a hit. How could it have been otherwise? I was involved. If you have any taste at all, you will listen to it and like it. Below the video are the lyrics and a bit of the dialogue from the scene of the film where the song is sang. There is also a Spanish translation of the lyrics and dialogue.

Below you can hear the song whole and better, but no images.

Algy: After you, dear boy. / Despues de ti, querido muchacho.
Jack: Oh, no, after you. / Oh, no, despues de ti.
Algy: No, no, no, do go first, / No, no, no, ve tú primero,
I'm not really good at the high bits.
Much better low / Mucho mejor las bajas
Jack: Oh, we'll see... / Oh, ya veremos…
Hm, hm, hm, hmm / Hm, hm, hm, hmm
Algy: 1, 2, and... / Uno, dos y…
Jack: The western wind is blowing fair / El viento del oeste sopla a favor
Across the dark Aegean Sea / Cruzando el oscuro mar Egeo
Algy: And at the secret marble stair / Y en la escalera secreta de mármol
My Tyrian galley waits for thee / Mi galera tiria te espera
Both / Ambos: Come down, the purple sail is spread / Bajad, la vela púrpura está extendida
The watchman sleeps within the town / El vigía duerme en el interior de la urbe
Oh, leave thy lily flowered bed / Oh, dejad vuestro floreado lecho de lirios

Algy: Well, she is never going to come down if you're singing like that. / Pues ella no va a bajar jamás si cantas así. /You're completely out of tune / Desentonas de lo lindo.

Algy: Well, it’s better than listening to it. / Pues es mejor que escucharlas.
Jack: Lady, come down./ Señora, bajad.
Algy: Doo bee doo bee doo bee doo bee doo / Du bi du bi du bi du bi du
