Levy Dew, the New Year Carol

Alzad el rocío, el villancico de Año Nuevo 

Take a sprig of an evergreen plant, dip it in fresh water and sprinkle it on the face of those you meet while you go on your way when the sun goes down on New Year’s Eve, or at the dawn of New Year’s Day, thus blessing them kindly. You can ask for a small reward for having blessed them, especially if you sing the carol below for them. Beware of bad-tempered people who don’t understand blessings. Just bless their feet and let them move away like the Old Year. Ah, and the seven wires of gold are the strings of a harp. Below you have the carol in English and our translation of it to the Spanish. 

Coge una ramita de pino, de acebo o de otra planta siempre verde,  úntala en agua fresca y rocía con ella la cara de aquellos que te encuentres por el camino al caer el sol y comenzar la Noche Vieja o al alba del día de Año Nuevo, bendiciéndoles de esa manera. Puedes pedir aguinaldo por hacerlo. Sobre todo si además cantas este villancico galés. Ojo con los malhumorados que no saben apreciar bendiciones. Bendíceles los pies y deja que se vayan como el Año Viejo. Ah, los siete alambres de oro son las cuerdas de un harpa. The Dilly Carol is a Welsh counting song that is to be sung on 12th Night,

It is also a riddle song that lists both Christian and pagan symbols.

También es un canto de acertijos, que enumera símbolos cristianos y páganos. 

Basically, it is about the message of love and peace to all people of good will delivered by the Dilly Bird.
