Do you know you can name a star after you? Click on Name a Star. For less than thirty bucks you can give a star your name. Or you can name it after a friend or a loved one. If you can´t think of a gift for someone who has everything, this is at least original and they say it lasts forever.

But here you have the IAU refusing to sell star names and preferring to call a star by a number. Personally, I think star names should be sold and the money used to buy glasses for people who need but can´t afford them. They are the closest thing to a telescope.

Pero aquí están los de la IAU negándose a vender nombres de estrellas y prefiriendo identificarlas sólo por una cifra. Personalmente creo que se deben poder vender y comprar nombres para las estrellas y el dinero se debe utilizar para comprar gafas a los que no pueden pagar por ellas. Son lo más parecido a un telescopio.

As soon as I hear that one of our children is to be born, I draw out my little sack of cowry sea shells and use them to divine what the creature will be like. That way i know what kind of a house we have to build for the little person.

En cuanto me entero de que uno de nuestros niños o niñas va a nacer, saco mi bolsita de conchas cauri y con ellas adivino como va a ser la criatura. Así se qué clase de casa tenemos que construir para esa personita.

You are Fiona and I knew from the very first seashell that the ideal house for you was of pink granite.

It had to have large French windows, the glass tainted a very pale shade of rose. A huge rosewindow over the front door, which is made of rosewood. A great big living room and an even bigger dining room and six bedrooms, very spacious, because all the houses have to have them.

Tenía que tener grandes ventanales de cristal tintado de un rosa muy pálido. Un gran rosetón encima de la puerta de entrada, que es de palo de rosa. Un gran salón y un comedor aún mayor y seis habitaciones, bien espaciosas, porque todas las casas las han de tener.

The master bedroom has its own dressingroom and spacious closets with tearoses carved on the doors. The bathrooms, three of pink marble and one of red coral, all with heartshaped bathtubs.

El dormitorio principal con vestidor, y armarios holgados con rosas de té labradas en las puertas. Los baños, tres de mármol rosa y uno de coral rojo, todos con la bañera en forma de corazón.

The kitchen, full of little spice jars and cupboards to keep colored sugar and cookie cutters and baking pans, and fancy shaped molds for cakes and even gelatin.

La cocina, llena de especieros y muebles para guardar azucares de colores y moldecitos para hacer galletas, tartas y hasta gelatina con formas.

In the garden, a turquoise swimmingpool, also heartshaped, full of rosewater. Rosetrees and rose bushes everywhere, with blossoms of all sizes and colours. And in the barn, ten little sheep with pink wool and two winged ponies, one white with a pink mane and tail and one pink with a white mane and tail. Did we get it right, child?

En el jardín, una piscina turquesa también con forma de corazón, llena de agua de rosas. Rosales por doquier, de todos los tamaños y colores. So we have built you a house shaped like a star with a glass roof. Your bedroom is in the attic, so you can sleep under the stas. A spiral staircase takes you to a balcony where you can observe the stars with a telescope that we have installed there. Your garden is full of white flowers and of pools shaped like the moon and stars where you can see the same reflected. Ah, and a nebulosae will surround your home whenever you want it to.

Tú vas a esperar tu turno bien calladito, ¿verdad, bonito? Que el que algo quiere, algo le cuesta. Branna, como buena matemática, también te interesas por la astronomía. Así que te hemos construido una casa en forma de estrella con un techo de cristal. Tu dormitorio está en el ático, para que puedas dormir bajo las estrellas. Una escalera de caracol conduce a un balcón desde el cual podrás observar las estrellas con un telescopio que hemos instalado ahí. El jardín es todo de flores blancas y tiene muchos estanques con la forma de la luna y las estrellas en los que de noche quedan reflejadas las mismas. Tus ovejitas irlandesas, blancas con las caritas negras. Los ponis alados, uno blanco y otro negro. Ah, y una nebulosa envolverá tu hogar siempre que tú lo desees.

Now I will tell you where we are going to install the houses. One next to the other right here, very close to the bargeman´s western pier. And since we know that you both are not only interested in Maths but also love to read, we´ve built your houses far from the Royal Library of St. Curmudgeon.

Ahora me toca deciros donde vamos a instalar las casas. Las hemos colocado una junto a otra aquí, muy cerca del puerto del oeste del barquero. Me imagino que estaréis continuamente yendo y viniendo para visitar a vuestra familia ahí fuera. Queremos que os resulte cómodo entrar y salir de la isla. Y como sabemos que aunque sois matemáticas también os gusta mucho leer, están situadas bien lejos de la Real Biblioteca de San Cascarrabias.

It started as a nickname because I always have a bead of sweat on my brow. I have a lot of energy and I prefer to use it to build things instead of to destroy them.

We installed like fifty pairs of leprechaun shoes beneath it. They can walk on their own when you ask them to nicely. Pretty please and all that. We have to be really careful when we ask them to get on the barge, because I have to return them to the shoemakers´ union as soon as I can. I have half the Republic of Leprechauns walking barefooted.

Hemos instalado como cincuenta pares de zapatos de léprecan debajo. Pueden caminar solos cuando se lo pides amablemente. Por favor, bonitos, y eso. I thought I would rue the day I took my pupils on a field trip but I was wrong. This one is actually helpful. Attention, leprechaun shoes! I´m going to count to three and then shout “all aboard!” When I shout “all aboard,” every shoe for himself ! You all scramble onto the barge really quick, before the icebox crashes into the water. No one need fear to drown in the resulting tsunami. We´re none of us mortal. Just remember to float instead of sinking so we can fish you out if you´re washed astray.

Pensé que lamentaría el día en que llevase a mis alumnos de excursión, pero estaba equivocado. Éste hasta es útil. ¡Atención, zapatos de léprecan! Land of hope and wishes come true, safe of the thirteen treasures and realm of the sisters nine, site of rainbow colored crystal cities of glass castles and free brick and granite stone houses!
