Nauta

After the Protogonoi came the Titans. They were huge and many in number and ruled the world for many years. I will tell you stories about the Titans another time. Today, I will only mention two of them, Iapetus and Clymene, who were the parents of the human race.

Despues de los dioses primordiales vinieron los Titanes. Eran muchos y enormes y gobernaron el mundo durante muchos años. Hoy sólo voy a mencionar a dos, Japeto y Climene, padres de la raza humana.
Humans lived through four ages. First came the Golden Age. People were very good. They lived on asphodels and there was no violence. Next came the Silver Age. Men began to fish and they were no longer as good as they used to be. Then came the Age of Bronze. Humans used metals to make swords and spears and hunted for meat. And finally came the evil Iron Age, when fraud, avarice and force ruled the day.





Los humanos pasaron por cuatro edades. Primero fue la Edad de Oro. La gente era muy buena. Vivían de asfodelos y no eran violentos. Entonces vino la Edad de Plata. Los humanos empezaron a pescar y ya no eran tan buenos. Luego llegó la Edad de Bronce. Los humanos usaron los metales para fabricar espadas y lanzas, cazaban y comían carne. Y finalmente llegó la malvada Edad de Hierro, y reinaron el fraude, la avaricia y la fuerza.

A flood was sent to wipe out the evil race of men of the Iron Age. The good Decaulion and Pyrrha alone survived. They were told to cast stones behind them as they walked and the stones Decaulion threw became men, and those Pyrrha threw became women. But because these new men and women came from stones, they were a little hard and stoney. That´s why humans are a little stubborn and not always as kindhearted as they should be.

Los dioses enviaron un diluvio para acabar con los malvados hombres de la Edad de Hierro. Sólo sobrevivieron Decaulión y Pirra porque eran bueños. Los dioses les dijeron que caminasen dejando caer piedrecillas tras ellos y las piedras que tiró Decaulión se convirtieron en hombres y las que tiró Pirra en mujeres. Como los nuevos humanos nacieron de las piedras, eran un poco duros. Por eso los seres humanos son algo tercos y no siempre tan bondadosos como deberían ser.

As for the Titans, they were challenged by their own children, a younger race of gods known as the Olympians, because they lived at the top of Mount Olympus in Greece. Although it seemed impossible, the Titans lost this war. I will tell you the details another time, when I speak of Zeus, the king of the Olympians, a god badly in need of a psychoanalyst.

En cuanto a los Titanes, sus propios hijos se rebelaron contra ellos y surgió una nueva raza de dioses conocida como los Olímpicos porque vivían en lo alto del Monte Olimpo. Aunque parecía imposible, los Titanes perdieron la guerra contra sus hijos. Os contaré los detalles en otra ocasión, cuando os hable de Zeus, rey de los Olímpicos, un dios necesitado de un psicoanalista.
