Catherine of Aragon and England / Catalina de Aragón y de Inglaterra

The Rosy Tree Blog found a poem by Elaenor Aisling, but didn't find any information about the author. So it let the poem speak for itself. For that reason, it published it there in the original English and also translated it to the Spanish. We thought we should publish it here too because it has to do with a Spanish girl who had to learn English. She became a queen and was loved by many in England, but, in time, not so by her husband, because she failed to give him a son. 

El blog del árbol sonrosado encontró una poesía de Elaenor Aisling. No encontró información sobre la autora. Por eso dejó que el poema hablase por si mismo y lo publicó en el inglés original y en su propia traducción al español. Como menciona a una muchacha española que tuvo que aprender inglés, hemos considerado interesante reproducir la poesía y su traducción aquí. Esta reina fue amada por muchos en Inglaterra, pero con el tiempo perdió el favor de su marido por no haber podido darle un hijo varón.

She dreamed of Pomegranates by Elaenor Aisling

She dreamed of pomegranates among lilies,

red orbs glowing among the white,

water beneath, black as soot and death,

while life drifted just above the surface.

 She thought of Catherine of Aragon,

forlorn loves, starved dreams,

desolate, but beautiful, on the surface of death.

The most lovely thing about life,

is that it ends.

 

Ella soñó con granadas de Elaenor Aisling

 Ella soñó con granadas entre lirios,

orbes rojos brillando incandescentes entre lo blanco,

agua debajo, negra como el hollín y la muerte,

mientras la vida flotaba justo por encima de la superficie.

Pensó en Catalina de Aragón,

amores abandonados, sueños famélicos,

desolados, pero hermosos, en la superficie de la muerte.

Lo más bello de la vida,

es que tiene fin.
