That was me! I howled that over my dead body would I give up my baby when we were about to exchange Alpin for a human child!

¡Esa era yo! ¡Yo grité que sólo se llevarían a mi niño por encima de mi cadáver cuando íbamos a cambiar a Alpin por un bebé humano!

Arley

You? I thought it was my human mum!

¿Tú? ¡Yo creía que era mi madre humana!

Oh, my poor Arley! All this time you thought you were the baby we were going to take in exchange of Alpin?

¡Oh, mi pobre Arley! ¿Todo este tiempo has pensado que tú eras el bebé que íbamos a coger a cambio de Alpin?

Titania, I told you we shouldn’t have taken him along with us that night. The first time you see the moon should be a beautiful experience. You should see it full up in the sky and also reflected in a pail so you will think you can have it, and it´s a good idea to taste your first ice cream while you’re meeting the moon. Vanilla, of course, it´s lighter for children.

Titania, te dije que no debíamos de haber llevado a Arley con nosotros esa noche. La primera vez que ves la luna debe ser una experiencia hermosa. Has de verla llena en el cielo y también reflejada en un cubo para que pienses que eres capaz de poseerla. Y es buena idea catar tu primer helado mientras estás en ello. De vainilla, claro, que es el más suave para los niños.

All you think about is eating! And don’t come near me with that sticky candy web. I took Arley along with us because I couldn’t bear to think someone might steal him from me while we were exchanging Alpin. Why do you think I gave in when Aislene insisted on keeping her baby against thousands of years of tradition?

¡Sólo piensas en comer! Y no te me acerques con esa red pegajosa de azucar. Llevé a Arley con nosotros porque no podía soportar la idea de que alguien me lo fuese a robar mientras estábamos cambiando a Alpin. ¿Por qué te crees que cedí cuando Aislene insistió en quedárselo en contra de una tradición milenaria?

Then I’m truly yours? I don’t have to go find my real family and become a human again to make them happy?

¿Entonces soy realmente vuestro? No tengo que partir para encontrar a mi verdadera familia y volver a ser humano para hacerles felices?

Oberon

¡Ho, ho, ho! What an idea! What an imagination this child has!

¡Jo, jo, jo! ¡Qué ocurrencia! Menuda imaginación tiene este crío.

Titania

It’s not funny, you fool! So stop laughing this minute. And you, Arley, how could you think we would take a child without leaving another in its place? No decent fairy has ever done that. Ogres and such, well, we know what they are like, but not decent fairies, no! So why would we steal a child if we had decided not to get rid of Alpin?

¡No tiene ninguna gracia, tonto! Así que deja de reírte ahora mismo. Y tú, Arley, ¿cómo has podido pensar que nos llevaríamos un niño sin dejar a otro en su lugar? No hay hada decente que haya hecho eso jamás. Los ogros y gente así, pues bueno, ya sabemos cómo son, pero no las hadas decentes, ¡no, señor! Así que, ¿para qué íbamos a robar  un niño si ya habíamos decidido no cambiar a Alpin?

I thought maybe, since you had already chosen the child that was to substitute Alpin, you felt sorry for it because it wasn’t going to have the chance to become better than human so you took him anyway.

Pensé que quizás, puesto que ya habíais elegido un niño para sustituir a Alpin, decidisteis darle de todos modos la oportunidad de ser mejor que los humanos.

But is it decent to exchange a dreadful child for a nice one? Without giving the nice kids’ parents a choice, too? I’m not sure how I feel about that.

¿Pero es decente cambiar a un niño horrible por uno agradable?¿ Sin darle a los padres del niño majo oportunidad de decidir? No sé si eso me parece bien.

We've always had our doubts. But there are reasons for this tradition that can be explained by history. We always send people we don’t like into exile, and it seems that back in the beginning of time we got rid of people who degenerated into the first humans. We think that an egotist who is born among us is more like them and is better off among them.

Siempre hemos tenido nuestras dudas. Pero hay razones históricas que explican el por qué de esta costumbre. Siempre desterramos a los que no nos son gratos y parece ser que al principio de los tiempos largamos a personas que degeneraron y se convirtieron en los primeros humanos. Pensamos que un ser egoísta que nace entre nosotros es más parecido a ellos y estará mejor entre ellos.

When we give human parents a bad child in exchange of a good one, at first they seem to have a bad bargain because the bad child wrecks their lives. But this doesn´t last long. When it sees they have nothing left to give him, the wicked creature runs away as soon as it can and goes on being a force for evil elsewhere. But think of all we do for the nice child that humans never could do. And we see to it he remains nice. Even the best of  human children can easily become odious beings when they dwell among mortals. But the child we save grows up to be very considerate and often does a lot to help his human family when it is old enough to. That should compensate.

Cuando entregamos a un niño malo a los humanos y nos llevamos al bueno que tienen, al principio parece que han hecho un mal negocio porque el niño malo les busca la ruina, pero esto no dura mucho. La criatura maligna se escapa en cuanto ve que no tienen nada más que darle y continúa siendo una fuerza para el mal en otra parte. Pero piensa en todo lo que hemos podido hacer para el bueno que no pueden hacer los humanos. Lo más importante es que hemos conseguido que siga siendo bueno. Incluso los mejores niños se pueden volver odiosos cuando viven entre mortales. Pero el niño que hemos salvado crece para ser muy considerado con los demás y suele hacer mucho para ayudar a su familia humana cuando tiene edad de hacerlo. Eso les debería compensar.

That's enough Arley, put an end to your absurd doubts. This is a party and you're spoiling it. Everyone wants to have fun, not listen to you rant and rave about your delusional ideas. 

Ya está bien, Arley, no más dudas absurdas. Estamos en un fiesta y la estás estropeando. Todos quieren divertirse, no escuchar como te comes el coco con tus ideas delirantes.

Alpin

Has anybody asked me how I feel about this? Well, I have no absurd doubts. I’m sure I feel offended. I’m not that dreadful a being. I’m the one who should be traumatized here. What will you give me to make up for it? I’m going to sue!

¿Me ha preguntado alguien como me siento yo por esto? Pues yo no tengo absurdas dudas. Estoy seguro de que me siento ofendido. Yo soy el que debería estar traumatizado aquí. ¿Qué me vais a dar para compensarme? ¡Voy a demandar!

This is what I get for being kind. I'm leaving. I have to get some sleep. I was radiant when I arrived but I'm sure I'm looking faded now.

Esto me pasa por buena. Me voy. Necesito dormir. Vine reluciente pero estoy segura que ahora parezco ajada.

Don't you worry. I'll ask Alpin to  forget about suing you. You know I'm on your side.
