At a Gateway to Hell / En un portal al Infierno

It is ten o´clock sharp in the morning on a splendid summer´s day.  Arley and Alpin, decided to continue with the adventure that went unfinished a year ago, have come to Salamanca the sapient and are standing under an arch that rises where once was the church of St. Cyprian, site of a notorious school of the occult and a gateway to Hell.

Son las diez en punto de la mañana de un espléndido día de verano. Arley y Alpin, dispuestos a continuar con su inacabada aventura del verano pasado han llegado hasta Salamanca  la sabia y están debajo de un arco que se alza donde antes estuvo la iglesia de San Cebrián, lugar que alberga una notoria escuela de ocultismo que es un portal del Infierno.

In answer to Arley´s knock, a sinister spyhole appears out of nowhere. Looking out through it is the demoness Moll Avery.

En respuesta a la llamada de Arley ha aparecido de la nada una siniestra mirilla. Mirando hacia fuera de esta, está la diablesa Mariálvara.

What the devil do you want? ¿To sell us shit? All we buy here is souls and it´s too early for that. Get the hell out of here before I throw a pail of pee on you both.

¿Qué demonios queréis? ¿Vender alguna mierda? Aquí lo único que compramos es almas, y no son horas para eso. ¡Largo de aquí antes de que os eche un cubo de aguas menores!

Good morning, madam. We are searching for a magic pencil and have been told it can be found here.

Buenas días, señora. Andamos buscando un lápiz mágico y me han dicho que se encuentra aquí.

She  has slammed the spyhole door in our noses. This is what happens when one is too polite, Arley. Haven´t you heard that when in Rome one must do like the Romans do? I bet that´s what this imbecile expects of us. Open this minute, you unfriendly fool! Who do you think you are? A French doorkeeper? This isn´t about you, you daughter of Satan.  I demand to see the headmaster of this stupid school.  

Nos han dado con la puerta de la mirilla en las narices. Arley, esto te pasa por ser demasiado educado y amable. ¿No has oído eso de allá dónde fueres haz lo que vieres? Apuesto a que es lo que esa imbécil espera de nosotros.  ¡Abre ahora mismo,  tía antipática, que pareces una portera francesa! ¡Esto no va contigo, hija de Satanás! ¡Exijo ver al director de esta estúpida escuela!

Hmm. Look, lads, the boss won´t come out. He´s far too important to do that. And you two can´t come in. It is strictly forbidden.

Hmm. Mirad, niños, el jefe no va a salir. Es demasiado importante para eso. Y vosotros aquí no podéis entrar. Está prohibidísimo.

I´m of age, if it´s because of that. I´m fay and I´m more than seven years old.

Yo soy mayor de edad, si es por eso. Soy hada y tengo más de siete años.

Why would that matter here? It´s because you are only two. Only groups of seven are allowed to pass through this door.

But what nonsense is this, you dumbass? Why seven?

Well…it´s one of the boss´s quirks. He likes the number seven. Maybe it brings him luck. Come, don´t insist. It´s not that I don´t wish to let you in. It´s not just forbidden, it´s also impossible. This door is designed so it won´t open unless there are seven people waiting to enter out there on the doorstep. Don´t pester me anymore. There´s nothing I can do about this and I have a lot of work to do.

Pues…manías del jefe. Le gusta ese número. Igual le trae suerte. Ea, no insistáis, que no es que no os quiera dejar entrar. No sólo está prohibido, también es imposible. La condenada puerta está hecha de forma que no se abre si no hay siete esperando entrar ahí fuera. No hay nada que yo pueda hacer para abrirla, así que no me deis más la lata, que tengo mucho que hacer.

But why not? The maid has scared you? Why, she´s a cinch to handle. All you need do is tell her what she has to do. Not ask her politely, like you did.
