Nauta´s Mini Mythology - Hecate / Mini Mitología de Nauta - Hécate
Since it will soon be Halloween, I believe it might be convenient for me to introduce you to a lady who knows how to keep evil spirits at bay. The main duty of the goddess Hecate is to watch all entrances through which evil spirits can sneak in and wreak havoc, preventing them from causing trouble. We the ancients depended on her to defend the doors of our homes. But one has to be very careful not to offend her because if she is piqued she refuses to do her work and then anything can happen. Her favorite animals are, of course, watchdogs, because they help her with her job.
Perhaps you are wondering which of the three young misses in the drawing is Hecate. She happens to be all three. Since she has such a tough job, she has to be worth three times as much as anyone else. That´s why she is triform. Sometimes she appears as three young women, like in the drawing. But other times she chooses to be a little girl, a young woman and an old lady at the same time. On occasions she has appeared without her human heads, wearing in their place the heads of animals, generally those of a horse, a boar and a dog.
Though her job is hectic and demanding, Hecate finds time for her favorite hobby, which is potion-brewing. In the drawing, she is surrounded by some of the plants she employs when practicing it. Many of them, such as belladonna, foxglove and mandrake can be quite poisonous. But Hecate also loves non-toxic plants. One of her favorites is garlic.
Now we´ll do a very mini mini quiz. I hope you get it all right. And if we don´t see each other again till after the 31st, make sure you have a happy Halloween.
1. What is Hecate´s job? / ¿Cúal es el trabajo de Hécate?
2. Which are Hecate´s favorite animals? Why? / ¿Cúales son los animales favoritos de Hécate? ¿Por qué?
3. Why does Hecate know a lot about plants?

When we can, we will dedicate a post to London Bridge and its ghosts. Meanwhile, have a look at this video taken in the London bridge dungeon. If you look closely, you might spot what could be a spectre. Experts who have examined this video can´t explain it.

For rappers who are Halloween enthusiasts / Para raperos que son forofos de Halloween
Turn back, ye who don't approve of rap. This post is for pupils who are rappers. Well, and for those who understand that rap does happen to be an art. Like it or not, don't mess with the Halloween King on the 31st, or you might be hit by something worse than karma.
Below is another video that shows you how to make the Halloween King's mask. Should you care to try and unless you have a diploma from a recognized school or university that states you are an expert at making things like this, ask an adult who is creative to help you with it. Ask anyway.

I was working in the lab,
Late one night,
When my eyes beheld an eerie sight,
For my monster from his slab began to rise,
And suddenly to my surprise..
(He did the mash) He did the monster mash,
(The monster mash) It was a graveyard smash,
(He did the mash) It caught on in a flash,
(He did the mash) He did the monster mash,
(wa-oo) From my labratory in the castle East,
(wa-oo) To the master bedroom where the vampires feast,
(wa, wa-oo) The ghouls all came from their humble abodes,
(wa-oo) To get a jolt, from my electrodes.
(they did the mash) They did the monster mash,
(the monster mash) It was a graveyard smash,
(they did the mash) It caught on in a flash,
(they did the mash) They did the monster mash,
(wa-ooo) The zombies were having fun,
(anashoop wa-oo) The party had just begun,
(anashoop wa-oo) The guests included wolfman,
(anashoop wa-oo) Dracula and his son
(wa-ooo) The scene was rocking, oh we're digging the sounds,
(wa-oo) Igor on chains backed by baying hounds,
(wa-oo) The coffin bangers were about to arrive,
(wa-oo) With their vocal group, the Crypt-Kicker Five
(they played the mash) They played the monster mash,
(the monster mash) It was a graveyard smash,
(they played the mash) It caught on in a flash,
(they played the mash) They played the monster mash
(wa-oo) Out from his coffin Drac's voice did ring,
(wa-oo) seems he was troubled by just one thing,
(wa, wa-oo) Open the lid, and shook his fist and said
(wa-oo) 'Whatever happened to my Transylvanian Twist?'
(it's now the mash) It's now the monster mash,
(the monster mash) And it's a graveyard smash,
(it's now the mash) It's caught on in a flash,
(it's now the mash) It's now the monster mash.
(wa-oo) Now everything's cool, Drac's a part of the band,
(wa-oo) And my monster mash is the hit of the land,
(wa, wa-oo) For you the living, this mash was meant too,
(wa-oo) When you get to my door, tell them Borris sent you.
(Then you can mash) Then you can monster mash,
(the monster mash) and do my graveyard smash,
(then you can mash) You'll catch on in a flash,
(then you can mash) Then you can monster mash.
