Cupid and Mr. de la Mare / Cupido y el Sr. de la Mare

The Little Old Cupid

´Twas a very small garden;
The paths were of stone,
scattered with leaves,
with moss overgrown.

And a little old Cupid
Stood under a tree
With a small broken bow
He stood aiming at me.

The dog-rose in briars
Hung over the weeds,
The air was afflock
with the floating of seeds;

And a little old Cupid
Stood under a tree,
With a small broken bow
He stood aiming at me.

The dovecote was tumbling,
The fountain dry,
A wind in the orchard
Went whispering by;

And a little old Cupid
Stood under a tree
With a small broken bow
He stood aiming at me.

El Cupido canijo

Era un jardin muy pequeño
con caminos de piedra
cubiertos de hojas,
musgo y hiedra

Y un Cupido canijo
bajo un árbol ví,
Con un arco partido
apuntaba hacia mí.

Sobre hierbas silvestres
zarzas de escaramujo colgaban
y semillas flotantes
el aire atiborraban

Y un Cupido canijo
bajo un árbol ví,
Con su arco partido
apuntaba hacia mí.

El palomar, desmoronado,
La fuente seca estaba,
Y al pasar por el huerto
una brisa susurraba

Y un Cupido canijo
bajo un árbol ví,
Con su arco partido
apuntaba hacia mí.

This poem is by Mr. Walter de la Mare, who, although a dead poet, is a relatively recent author. One of you is going to have to tell us about him and his sensitive world.

In poems, punctuation can be a little erratic because they are more about voices and feelings than about rules. If you find anything odd about the punctuation of the English original or the Spanish translation, you may suggest changes.

If any of you want some points, I want you to tell me the name of a plant that has crept into the garden of the Spanish version and wasn´t there in the original English version. That´s a way to prove you´ve read both. And you must define in Spanish what "escaramujo" is. Yes, I know it´s dog-rose in English. But what kind of plant is it?

I have two little old Cupids with broken bows in my house. So I will put a picture of one up front and I´m putting another down here, as soon as I can.
