One Meatball / Una albóndiga



It is quite common to have spaghetti with meatballs in the U.S.A., but when times are hard...

Es algo muy corriente tomar espagueti con albóndigas en los Estados Unidos de América, pero cuando los tiempos son duros...

A little man walked up and down,
He found an eating place in town,
He read the menu through and through,
To see what fifteen cents could do.
One meat ball, one meat ball,
He could afford but one meat ball.
He told the waiter near at hand,
The simple dinner he had planned.
The guests were startled, one and all,
To hear that waiter loudly call,
“What? One meat ball, one meat ball?
Hey, this here gent wants one
meat ball!”
The little man felt ill at ease,
Said, “Some bread, sir, if you please.”
The waiter hollered down the hall,
“You gets no bread with one meat ball!
One meat ball- no spaghetti! One meat ball!
Well, you gets no bread with one
meat ball!”
The little man felt very bad,
One meat ball was all he had,
And in his dreams he hears that call,
“You gets no bread with one meat ball!
One meat ball- no spaghetti! One meat ball!
Well, you gets no bread with one
meat ball!”

Un hombrecillo caminó hacia arriba y hacia abajo
Hasta encontrar un lugar en el que comer.
Leyó el menú de pe a pa
Buscando algo que pudiese pedir por 15 céntimos.
Una albóndiga. Pero sin espagueti. Una albóndiga.
Sólo podía permitirse una albóndiga.
Le comunicó al camarero
La sencilla cena que pensaba tomar.
La clientela del lugar se escandalizó
Al escuchar al camarero gritar
"¿Cómo?¿Una albóndiga? ¡¡¡Una albóndiga!!!
¡Eh! ¡Este tío quiere una albóndiga!"
El hombrecillo se inquietó,
"Y un poco de pan, señor, por favor," pidió.
El camarero gritó a lo largo de la sala,
"¡No tienes derecho a pan con una sola albóndiga!
¡Una albóndiga!¡Nada de espagueti! ¡Una albóndiga!
¡No hay pan para acompañar a una sola albóndiga!"
El hombrecillo se sentía fatal,
Una albóndiga fue todo lo que tomó.
Y en sus sueños oye esos gritos de
"¡No tienes derecho a pan con una albóndiga!
Una albóndiga. ¡Nada de espagueti! ¡Una albóndiga!
¡¡Pues no hay pan para acompañar a una sola albóndiga!!"
