A problem / Un problema

Fiona

Let´s see if you are capable of solving this problem, which is from one of my favorite films.

If Johnny eats six apples and a loaf of bread a day, a quart of milk and cinnamon before he goes to play, and Mrs. Brown is worried because he is only two feet high, then how much longer will it be before he is apple pie?

Multiply by Nine / Multiplica por nueve

Branna

Nine is my favorite number. And one of the things I like about it is that there is an easy way to multiply it up to by ten.

Look at my hands.

Mirad mis manos.

I´ve hidden the first of my fingers -finger number one - because I am going to multiply nine by one. There aren´t any fingers in front of my hidden finger, but behind my hidden finger there are nine fingers. That is the result of multiplying nine by one: nine.

Now I have hidden my second finger because I am going to multiply nine by two. There is one finger in front of my hidden finger and there are eight fingers behind my hidden finger. A one on the right and an eight on the left are 18. The result of multiplying nine by two is 18.

Now I am going to multiply nine by three. So I hide finger number three. Now I have two fingers on the right of the hidden finger and seven fingers on the left of the hidden finger. Three times nine is 27.

And when I hide the fourth finger to multiply nine by four, I find I have three on the left and six on the right. The result is 36. Isn´t it easy to multiply like this? Well, you go on and tell me the results.

Five times nine is _ _.

Nueve por cinco son _ _.

Six times nine is _ _.

Nueve por seis son _ _.

Seven times nine is _ _.

Nueve por siete son _ _.

Eight times nine is _ _.
Nueve por ocho son _ _.

Nine times nine is _ _.

Nueve por nueve son _ _.

Ten times nine is _ _.
Y nueve por diez son _ _.
Remember that a zero to the left doesn´t count, but a zero to the right does! That´s why you have to write a zero behind the number of fingers in this picture.

Nauta´s Mini Mythology - Poseidon and Amphitrite/ Mini Mitología de Nauta - Poseidon y Anfitrite

Nauta

I am the last to abandon blog. Every summer, it is I who announces that it will be a few days before we publish another post. As you all know, Michael´s holiday has been interrupted by three conflictive people, to be more explicit, his insufferable cousin Alpin, this child´s angelical friend, Arley, and Michael´s problematic pupil, Mr. Curmudgeon Finn. When the first, seconded by the second, swam out of his swimming pool´s drain chased by his new and resolute guardian, it was in no time that the three discovered the said drain led no less than to Michael´s secret hideaway. It is at the end of August or at the beginning of September that people usually recount the Odysseys they have lived during the summer, and it will be then that we will learn what became of these four characters lost in the Pacific. As for our mini mythology, Poseidon, god of the sea, has been complaining for a long time now that he has not been featured in this blog, where his brothers Zeus and Hades have long figured in posts. Since this pelagic god once saw fit to drown me in the deepest depths of his territory, now more than two thousand years ago, although I feel a profound love for the ocean being as good a sailor as I should be, I am still a little resentful and I will only say of its capricious sovereign that his wife Amphitrite is incredibly lovely, his kingdom utterly marvelous and that he is credited with having invented the horse, his useful gift to humanity. And lacking more to say for the moment, I bid you farewell wishing you a propitious August.
