Moonstone Miniatures / Miniaturas de piedra lunar

Mr. Blake

You ate them, didn’t you? Your family and the rest!

Te los comiste, ¿a que sí? ¡A tu familia y a los demás!

Alpin

What do you take me for? An ogre? I´ve only just learned to eat meat this winter. And I don´t think it´s that good. I like sweets better.

Still, the truth is I´m a bit tired of restaurant food. I thought I would enjoy everybody else’s Christmas dinners more than I actually have. They didn´t live up to my expectations.

I didn´t think much of their presents either. Though some were not so bad, most were junk I have no use for. For instance, what can I do with a makeup kit that will make me look a thousand years younger? Sell it to Magpie? She is a seasoned thief and I am an inexperienced child. She would surely rip me off, so I would rather not let her know I have these things. That way she won´t benefit at my cost.

¿Vendérselo a Urraca?

I think I kind of long for homemade food. I miss my mum´s cooking. I just might be ready for you to make her come back.

By the way, you don´t look like yourself today.

Por cierto, no te pareces a ti mismo hoy.

Mr. Blake

That´s because I didn´t draw myself. Look here, lad, I´ve never had as much patience with annoying children as I´ve had with you, so I hope you sincerely mean to help me bring these people back. First, you must tell me what happened to them.

Alpin

On the afternoon of the 31st of October, Michael sent me to Nauta´s villa, to remind him there was to be the usual Halloween party at his place. That was necessary because Nauta hadn´t been seen on this blog for a while.

His wife told me he was having problems with the person who does the pictures for his mini mythology. I went to the house where this person lives but there was no one there. However, there was something there that caught my eye.

On a table was a severed head with snakes for hair. Both the head and the snakes seemed to be dead as doornails. I thought this might be a cool article to take to a Halloween party. I put it in my tote bag and left for the party because the sun was coming down and the fun begins as soon as it is dark.

On my way there I passed Owl Wood Manse. Michael had invited Ty Shyboy and he was on the way to the party too. We met and I told him about the head. We wondered what might happen if we put it into a jumbisack soaked with Shyboy’s oil. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

When we got to Michael´s place, the other guests were already there. Suddenly, the jumbisack with the head in it burst open.

 Mr. Blake

 The revelers were petrified.

Los fiesteros quedaron petrificados.

Alpin

You’re getting ahead of me, but yes, that’s right.

The head bounced all over the place turning everyone that looked at it into something like stone, and everyone, of course, includes everyone there but me. I only had eyes for the food.

By the time there was nothing left for me to eat, the head had almost totally fallen into Michael´s wishing well. Only one telltale snake was visible, crawling desperately to try and pull the rest of the head out. I pushed the snake in with a stick, and the whole thing dropped to the bottom of the pit. When I heard the splash, I covered the well. I didn´t peek in, but I suppose it´s still there. And I sincerely hope it drowned.

 Gorgon Head

Just you wait.

Te vas a enterar.

Mr. Blake

But where are the statues? I didn´t see any at Michael´s place.

¿Pero dónde están las estatuas? No vi ninguna en casa de Michael.

Alpin

There aren´t any statues, except for Ty Shyboy. Only he was human. The fairies got changed into very tiny little figures that look more like chess pieces made of moonstone. I put them in my tote bag.

Mr. Blake

Are they still there? Where is this bag?

¿Siguen allí? ¿Dónde está esta bolsa?

Alpin

I gave the little figures to the ex-thief di Lembo in exchange for some king cakes. He gets a huge one every day, so he has plenty to spare. They’re the best I’ve ever tasted too.

Mr. Blake

Knick-knack di Lembo was at that gathering? Why was he not affected?

¿Maritatas del Limbo estaba en esa reunión? ¿Por qué no le pasó nada?

Alpin

He was lucky. He arrived late. He had to feed his mother dinner first.

Tuvo suerte.

Mr. Blake

I assume he wanted the chess pieces to give to his mother?

Alpin

No, I don´t think so. He took Ty too, and that figure is too big for his mum´s collection.

Di Lembo was very scared. He said we had to hide the figures before they fell into the wrong hands. He knows more about hiding stolen goods and other compromising stuff than I do, so I let him take charge of that. In exchange for king cakes, of course.

 Mr. Blake

We must pay this gentleman a visit.

Hemos de visitar a este caballero.

Alpin and Boas / Alpin y las boas

Alpin

Hi, guys! Here I am again, ready to talk about food, as always! And today, my guest on this post is a snake that can squish and squash and strangle and swallow anything from bats to deer, with people somewhere in between. But I´m not scared. I wouldn´t mind eating a dozen boas roasted on five meter long poles, especially if they are stuffed because they´ve just eaten. Haven’t you ever been told one must eat a little of everything?

I´m being swallowed by a boa constrictor / Me está tragando una boa constrictora,

I´m being swallowed by a boa constrictor / Me está tragando una boa constrictora,

I´m being swallowed by a boa constrictor / Me está tragando una boa constrictora,

And I don´t like it very much. / ¡Y no me gusta un pelo!

Oh, no! He swallowed my toe! / ¡Oh, no! ¡Oh, no! ¡Mi dedo gordo se tragó!

He swallowed my toe! / ¡Mi dedo gordo se tragó!

Oh, gee! Oh, gee! He´s up to my knee! / ¡Qué pesadilla! ¡Qué pesadilla! Ya llegó a mi rodilla!

He´s up to my knee! / ¡Ya llegó a mi rodilla!

Oh, fiddle, oh, fiddle! He´s up to my middle! / ¿Qué digo? ¡Qué digo! ¡Ha alcanzado mi ombligo!

He´s up to my middle! / ¡Ha alcanzado mi ombligo!

Oh, heck! Oh, heck, he´s up to my neck! / ¡Ay, porras! ¡Ay, porras! ¡Ha llegado a mi cuello!

He´s up to my neck! / ¡Y sigue en ello!

Oh, dread! Oh, dread! He swallowed my- schlirrppp! / ¡Qué espanto! ¡Qué espanto! ¡Se acaba este canto! ¡Schlirrppp!
