No More Nightmares /No mas pesadillas.

Alpin

I want those mascots! I especially want the antelope! I want thirteen dozen of each plus two baker´s dozen more of the antelope!

¡Quiero esas mascotas!

Michael

Will you stop screaming? I´m trying to decide where to go this August. I really need to go on holiday.

¿Quieres dejar de gritar? Estoy intentando decidir dónde ir este Agosto. Realmente necesito unas vacaciones.

Alpin

I want to go to the Olympics!

¡Yo quiero ir a las Olimpiadas!!

Fergus

Nauta and I want to go too. We´re sure everything is going to be beautiful and thrilling and very well organized. And believe it or not, we´re willing to take you with us. But there´s something about the slogan we don´t understand. One World? One Dream?

Nauta

One World? One Dream? Only One World? I´m from the Other World. Where does that leave me?

¿Un Mundo? ¿Un Sueño? ¿Pero sólo un mundo? Yo soy del Otro Mundo. ¿Donde me sitúa eso?

Fergus

You were a Roman in life. You know how Rome wanted everyone to live in the Roman way. But I firmly believe there should be many worlds, so people who cant´put up with the one they live in can move to another they like better. People should have options. They should even be spoiled for choice.

Tu eras romano.

Michael

What the slogan is trying to say is that people are really alike all over the world. We all want to be happy. At the Lympics, people from all over the world come together to try and do their best and prove humanity can advance.

Fergus

That´s a dream. The reality is that there are people all over the world that are very unhappy.

Don Quijote

Is it an impossible dream?

¿Es un sueño imposible?

Glorvina

I don´t think it´s a question of one or a dozen worlds or one or a dozen dreams. I think it´s a question of putting an end to nightmares.
No More Nightmares. For anybody, anywhere.

No Mas Pesadillas. Para nadie, en ninguna parte.

Don Quijote

How about if we do something more than wish or dream?

These kids - and other really shy ones - have been working with me during the 2007-2008 schoolyear. We took the pictures in June, just before the end of the schoolyear. I promised I would publish them in this blog as soon as I had them and here they are.

Below, Jesse in the center and the two Charlies on his left and right.

Below, one really shy guy and Joseph Anthony cracking up.

Now they´re both shy.

Above, Martha signals Victory. What was that about?

Above, Ainhoa and Laura at work. Below, giving us a smile.

Here are Tania, Carmen N. and Araceli and Beatrix proving the camera loves certain people.

Alba, Esther and Carmen L. in rapt contemplation. They deserve an oscar.

Now, another one facing the camera above. And another one of Esther and Carmen below.

Virginia, Ainhoa R. and Desireé. I´ve been told one of them is a crack football player. Better than Beckham!

Hey! They´re pointing at me!

Above are Isabel and Jenny. And below, Diana with Jenny.

Below are Margie and Lola concentrating hard.

And now, posing for the camera.

Below, Ainhoa S., Laura and Lola at work.

Joseph Raymond, below, isn´t scared of the camera at all. His friend is camera shy and now the picture is a little blurry.

Below are Johnny and Joey M. They pose like professionals.

Alba and Desi below. Alba is almost always first to answer prize questions.

And Joey M. and Desi below.

Nauta´s Mini Mythology - Leto, Apollo and the Muses / Mini Mitología de Nauta - Leto, Apollo y las Musas

Nauta

This month I´m going to tell you about Leto and the youngest of her twin children and his circle of friends.

Leto, whom we Romans call Latona, was a shy goddess whose name means "the occult" probably because she had a retiring nature and didn´t insist on being the center of attention. In the picture she is in Lycia, where she tried to drink water from a pond. The villagers wouldn´t let her. They tried to muddy up the water so she couldn´t drink it. She got so angry she turned them into frogs. That´s why not everybody who kisses a frog gets a charming prince. Some people get stuck with an inhospitable villain.

There are many fountains in Europe that have statues based on this story. If you want to see one, go here:

Latona's son is Phoebus. We Romans call him Apollo. He is the god of the sun, of song and of prophecy. He has long blonde hair and he is always young and handsome.

Apollo is one of the 12 Olympians. He spends a lot of time in Pieria, with the violet-eyed Muses. These are nine sisters who are very cultured. Their job is to inspire people who cultivate arts and sciences.

Alexander Pope

A little learning is a dangerous thing;
Drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring.

Aprender a medias es muy peligroso;

Alpin

To drink from the Pierian Spring is the same as to study. Mr. Pope means that if you study only half of the contents of a test, you might flunk. Where is my prize?
