Colon Man / El hombre de Colón

This is a lovely CD and one of the cutest songs in it is "Colon Man."

 Este es un CD muy bonito y una de las canciones más graciosas que contiene es "Hombre de Colón."

The so-called Colon Men were laborers from the West Indies who had emigrated to Panama to work in the construction of the Panama Canal, a path between the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans. Colon is one of the most important cities of this country. Many considered these men unfortunate because they worked hard and earned little, but in their homeland they were admired and respected because they had made a real effort to better themselves, had returned home with money earned and saved and had seen a bit of the world. The man in this song wears a zoot suit. These type of suit was very popular among fans of jazz music and rebelious teenagers in the 1940's.  As you can see in the pictures of zoot suits we found on the Internet, these were decorated by a long chain like those worn with watches, but in this case with no watch attached. That's why the man looks up at the sun when he is asked for the time of day. His countrywomen, however, when they see he looks sad, are quick to tell him that they aren´t laughing at him. They laugh with him.

Los  llamados hombres de Colón eran obreros de las Indias Occidentales (Jamaica, Las Bahamas, etc.) que habían emigrado a Panamá para trabajar en la construcción del canal de Panamá, un camino entre los océanos Atlántico y Pacífico. Colón es una de las ciudades más importantes de dicho país. Muchos consideraban a estos “hombres de Colón”  desafortunados porque trabajaban duro y cobraban poco, pero en su tierra eran admirados y respetados porque se habían esforzado  en mejorar y habían vuelto a su tierra con algo de dinero ahorrado y habiendo visto mundo. El  hombre de la canción lleva una "zoot suit," que es un traje de chaqueta muy ancho, popular entre los fans del jazz y los jóvenes rebeldes de los años cuarenta, decorado con una gran cadena como la que va con un reloj de cadena, pero sin el reloj. Por eso, cuando le preguntan qué hora es, mira al sol. Pero al verle triste, sus paisanas son prontas en decir que no se ríen de él, sino con él.

The Return of the Abducted / El regreso de los raptados

Sick of waiting for Mungo Binky to authorize himself to leave the realm of fairy, and with good reason to fear that Alpin will interfere irremediably with the sustainable development of his island, the pirate Salty Boogerbeard has taken to sea in his ghost ship with a crew of animated skeletons and four prisoners, one of them an apprentice tyrant.

Harto de esperar a que Mungo Binky se autorice a sí mismo para salir del reino de las hadas, y teniendo fundadas razones para temer que Alpin vaya a interferir irremediablemente con el desarrollo sostenible en su isla, el pirata Saladito Barbamocos se ha lanzado a la mar en su barco fantasma con una tripulación de esqueletos animados y cuatro prisioneros, uno de ellos aprendiz de tirano.
