Birthday Greetings For You / Felicidades por tu cumpleaños

This is the rain-making magician. Can you tell the dancer from the dance?

Nauta´s Mini Mythology - Rivers and Naiads / Mini Mitología de Nauta - Ríos y náyades

Nauta

It is almost summer. Every day, it gets hotter and hotter. If there is something we need more than ever in summer, it is water. We need to drink a lot of it, and we enjoy bathing in it.

Just like us, the ancient Greeks got their water from rivers, lakes, fountains and springs. The Greeks believed that each of these bodies of water had a spirit that protected it and kept it clean and fit to drink. The gods of the rivers were called Potamoi, and the nymphs of the fountains, lakes and springs were called Naiads. Every city, town or village was built near a source of water. And its inhabitants venerated the spirits that lived there.

In the picture above is a famous river god, Asopos. He is with some of his daughters, who were among the most beautiful of Naiads.

Maybe because children love to play with water, the potamoi were believed to be the guardians of boys and the naiads the guardians of girls. They also helped children become adults, teaching them how to flow along the river of life.

Below is a song about a river and life.

I´m crossing you in style one day. / Te cruzaré a lo grande un día.
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker. / Creador de sueños, rompedor de corazones.
Wherever you´re going, I´m going your way. / Vayas donde vayas, yo también iré.
Two drifters, off to see the world. / Dos vagabundos, dispuestos a ver el mundo.
There´s such a lot of world to see. / Hay tanto mundo que ver.
We´re after the same rainbow´s end/ Queremos llegar al final del mismo arcoiris
My huckleberry friend, Moon river and me.
If you want to listen to Sarah Brightman sing Moon River, you might be able to in a post we will publish right after this one, that is, the one above. Doesn´t she look like a Naiad in this picture?

Since it´s June, all the following questions have a prize.
Henry Mancini
The music is mine.

La música es mía.

Johnny Mercer

The lyrics are mine.

La letra es mía.

Mark Twain

What do my huckleberry creation and I have to do with Moon River?

Huckleberry Finn

I´m a wonderful read for the summer.
Soy una lectura maravillosa para el verano.

Huckleberries

We´re the real article. We are huckleberries. In Spain, some people are said to be as rural as poppies. In America, you can call someone who isn´t sophisticated a huckleberry. The picture above is from an article on the wonderful huckleberries of Oregon. We´re also called blueberries, for an obvious reason.

Truman Capote

What do I have to do with this song?

Audrey Hepburn

Who am I playing?

¿Qué papel estoy haciendo?

Heraclitus

Nobody swims twice in the same river. Panta rei. What am I saying?

Panta rei. ¿Qué estoy diciendo?

Enjoy flowing with the river of life this summer, grow up a little, but not too much too soon!

The Granite Stone House I - Does Magpie Know? / La Casa de Granito I - ¿Lo sabe Urraca?

Alpin

I have a house? I have a granite stone house?

¿Tengo una casa? ¿Tengo una casa de granito?

Michael

That awful woman knows. That awful woman knows I only went to her garage sale seeking for my lost shoe. That awful woman knows, and what is more, that awful woman has got my poor lost shoe in her clutches. Did you hear what she said about shoes like those that fly one home to Kansas? That awful woman was toying with me because she has my shoe!

Moth

That´s not true. Magpie loves to provoke people. And she´s mean to everybody because she knows she can afford to be. People are so anxious to buy the stuff she sells that she can insult her clients as much as she pleases. Nobody asks where those things came from or who made them and everybody ignores her when she insults their intelligence. She was teasing you because you went to her sale wearing a T-shirt and trainers, that´s all. She may have thought that would embarass you into buying expensive brand clothes.

Alpin

I have a house? I have a granite stone house?

¿Tengo una casa? ¿Tengo una casa de granito?

Michael

Well, if Magpie didn´t know it before, she knows it now. There´s a leprechaun shoe out there to be had by the first comer.

Moth

Magpie doesn´t know a thing. You´re imagining things. Why are you always wearing trainers lately? Didn´t you and your father make a new pair of magic shoes for you more than a year ago?

Uracca no sabe nada.

Michael

Right now I have three proper leprechaun shoes.

Ahora mismo tengo tres auténticos zapatos de léprecan.

Moth

And what do you want more for?

¿Y para qué quieres más?

Imelda

Only one thousand seven hundred pairs of shoes and none of them were magical.

Zahra

I shared a pair with my brother Ali. In case it happens to you, you can learn how we managed by watching "Children of Heaven."

Michael

Because there are things that cannot fall into just anyone´s hands. A leprechaun shoe is one of them.

Moth

There´s something I don´t understand. If leprechaun shoes are so stupendous, why don´t you make them so they return home on their own like horses or messenger pigeons?

The French Film

Hey! We are the children of Paradise!

¡Eh! ¡Qué nosotros somos los niños del paraiso!

Alpin

I have a house?!! I have a granite stone house?!!

¡¡¿Tengo una casa?!! ¡¡ ¿Tengo una casa de granito?!!

To be continued. / Continuará.

Awful Things / Cosas Espantosas

Listening to mortal tv and because today is the day after yesterday, we remembered a poem translated from the Chinese by Arthur Waley. And then we thought about something that is not entirely something else because we saw a headline that is probably already old.

The Chinese Poem:
El Poema Chino:

Minister of War, we are the king´s claws and fangs,
Why should you roll us from misery to misery,
Giving us no place to stop in or take rest?

Minister of War, we are the king´s claws and teeth,
Why should you roll us from misery to misery,
Giving us no place to come and stay?

Minister of War, surely you are not wise.
Why should you roll us from misery to misery?
We have mothers who lack food.

And the not altogether something else brought up by the headline:

Somebody asked where are all the war poems gone?
Somebody would send a poet to Afghanistan?
The war poems? Alright, they can stay.
The wars? If we could ask, all answerless, where they were gone.
