Burns' Night / La noche de Burns

On January 25th people in Scotland celebrate Burns' Night, a feast of literature. When poet Robert Burns, author of beautiful love poems and transmitter of the ideas of the French Revolution died at the age of 37, his friends established a tradition that still goes on today. They got together on the 25th of January, which was the date of Bobby´s birthday to honor the memory of their friend. They had a grand dinner, recited his poems and sang his songs. El 25 de enero se celebra la noche de Burns, fiesta de la literatura en Escocia. Cuando el poeta Robert Burns, autor de hermosos poemas y canciones de amor y difusor de las ideas de la Revolución Francesa murió a la temprana edad de 37 años, sus amigos establecieron una tradición que ha llegado hasta nuestros días. Se reunieron el 25 de enero, fecha del cumpleaños de Bobby, para recordar a su amigo. Celebraron una gran cena, leyeron sus obras y cantaron sus canciones. The main dish of a Burns' Night Dinner is haggis. It is not something anybody would want to eat. Mary Stuart hated it and would not allow this typical Scottish sausage to be exported so that foreigners would not think ill of her people. But Burns praised it in verse. If you watch the video below you will understand why the English can't always understand the Scots when they speak.

El plato fuerte de la cena de la noche de Burns es el haggis. No es algo que se atreva a comer cualquiera. María Estuarda lo odiaba y  prohibió que se exportase este embutido para que los extranjeros no pensasen mal de los escoceses. Pero Burns lo alabó en verso. Si ves el video de abajo, entenderás porque los ingleses no siempre entienden a los escoceses cuando hablan.
