Cashew Nut Legend / La leyenda del anacardo

Leafies know a lot about plants and we can change them in different ways. Today, we´re going to tell you the legend of a plant that was changed by a fairy, the cashew.

But, to prove you understand the story, fill in the blanks using these words:

blinded, cloistered, grove, knock it off, lightning, noises, quarrelled, scared, shade, shapes, sigh, sooner.

Los Hojita sabemos mucho de plantas y podemos cambiarlas de muchas formas. Hoy os vamos a contar la leyenda de una planta que fue cambiada por un hada: el anacardo.

Pero para demostrar que entendéis el cuento, rellenad los huecos con estas palabras: arboleda, arrancasen, cegada, discutieron, enclaustradas, formas,

más temprano, miedo, rayos, ruidos, sombra, suspiro.

One day a fairy was strolling lazily through a (1)________. At that moment she had nothing much to do except enjoy the early morning sunshine. She heard a soft little sigh that made her pause and ask herself where it came from. A second little (2)________told her that it came from inside a small red apple-like fruit growing on a cashew tree. “Why are you sighing?” the fairy asked the fruit. “Are you a worm stuck inside? How did you get in? I don´t see a hole.” “I´m not a worm. I´m a seed. And, yes, I´m stuck in here and I can´t see a thing and have no idea what is going on outside. I know there is an outside because I can hear (3)________. And now you. I would really like to see you and what it is like out there.” The fairy said fine, she could do that for the seed. And out popped the seed into the sunlight. It was (4)________for a second by the light but soon it was able to enjoy the colors and the (5)________all about. “Are you happy now?” asked the fairy. The fruit said yes, very, and thanked the fairy who left as satisfied with herself as the seed was with the change. The morning went well. It was a little hot at noon, but the seed was able to spend the afternoon in the (6)________. At twilight, however, the clouds gathered and as often happens when they do, they (7)________ and began a storm. The seed was badly frightened by the thunder and the (8)________and fearful that the wind and the raindrops would (9)________the apple to which it was still attached. At dawn, the fairy again visited the grove and checked on the seed to see how it was doing. “I´m not sure,” said the seed. “Maybe I was better off inside the apple. I was so (10)________I might fall to the ground during the storm last night.” “You eventually will fall anyway,” said the fairy. “(11)________or later you will be buried in the ground. I can´t change that. The question is if you want to spend your time up there inside or outside the apple.” The seed decided outside and that is why cashew seeds grow unlike the seeds of other fruits, which prefer to live (12)________.

Un día un hada estaba paseando lentamente por una (1)________. En ese momento no tenía otra cosa que hacer salvo disfrutar de la tenue luz de la mañana. Oyó un pequeño suspiro que le hizo detenerse y se preguntó de dónde venía. Un segundo (2)________ le indicó que procedía de una pequeña fruta roja, parecida a una manzana, que crecía en un árbol. “¿Por qué suspiras?” el hada preguntó a la fruta. “¿Eres un gusano que se ha atascado ahí dentro? No veo un agujero.” “No soy un gusano. Soy una semilla. Y sí, estoy atascada aquí dentro y no puedo ver nada de lo que está sucediendo ahí fuera. Sé que hay algo ahí fuera porque oigo (3)________. Y ahora te oigo a ti. Me encantaría verte y ver como son las cosas ahí fuera.” El hada dijo que ella podía hacer eso para la semilla. Y la semilla brotó fuera hacía la luz del sol. Al principio estaba un poco (4)________ por la luz pero pronto pudo disfrutar de los colores y las (5)__________que la rodeaban. “¿Eres feliz ahora?” pregunto el hada. La fruta dijo que sí, mucho, y dio las gracias al hada que se marchó tan satisfecha consigo misma como lo estaba la semilla con el cambio. La mañana transcurrió bien. Hizo un poco de calor al mediodía, pero la semilla pudo pasar la tarde a la (6)________. Al llegar el crepúsculo, sin embargo, las nubes decidieron reunirse y, como a veces sucede cuando lo hacen, (7)________ y provocaron una tormenta. Los (8)________ y los truenos asustaron a la semilla que además temía que el viento y las gotas de lluvia la (9) ________de la manzana a la que seguía sujeta. Al amanecer, el hada volvió a visitar la arboleda y echó un vistazo a la semilla para ver qué tal le iba. “No estoy segura,” respondió la semilla. “Puede que estuviese mejor dentro de la manzana. Tuve tanto (10)________ de caerme a la tierra anoche durante la tormenta.” “Eventualmente te caerás,” contesto el hada. “Más tarde o (11)________quedarás enterrada bajo la tierra. No puedo cambiar eso. La cuestión es si prefieres pasar el tiempo que estés en el árbol dentro o fuera de la manzana.” La semilla decidió que fuera, y por eso las semillas de los anacardos crecen al aire libre, al contrario que la mayoría de las semillas que prefieren vivir (12)________.

He will be watching it all summer, so tough luck to you, unks.

If he spends the summer doing what he´s been doing all the while, he still won´t learn a thing. I can´t understand why Michael didn´t let St. Patrick work a miracle.

¿Que Michael se ha ido dejando a Finn enchufado a tu tele? Pero si lleva meses viendo la película sin entenderla. Está claro que ese método no funciona con Finn. Si se tira el verano haciendo lo mismo que ha hecho antes, seguirá sin aprender nada. No entiendo por qué Michael no dejó que San Patricio obrase un milagro.

Well, he´s become a lot more famous by not allowing the miracle to happen than he would have if it had.

Sure, but he says he doesn´t mind because this has made him look like an infamous teacher and now nobody will want to be taught by him.

Well, since Michael now has what he wants, listen, Finn, surely you would rather watch the game with my brothers and me. That film is beyond doubt wonderful but it´s old hat to you. Let´s turn off the DVD.

Pues como Michael ya ha conseguido lo que quería, escuche, Finn, seguro que prefiere usted ver el partido conmigo y con mis hermanos. Esa película sin duda es estupenda, pero ya la tiene que tener usted muy vista. Vamos a apagar el DVD.
