Weather Vocabulary / Vocabulario del tiempo atmosférico

Don Quijote:

What´s the weather like? What is it like outside?

¿Qué tiempo hace? ¿Qué tiempo hace ahí fuera?

Sancho Panza

Well, it´s not precisely raining cats and dogs. I would say that today we could learn to fry eggs on the sidewalk. But if you prefer, we could review weather vocabulary. And we can learn a little about Japanese art while we are at it.

Alpin and Arley have found a fine wall to do some graffiti on. It encircles the ruins of old, abandoned Owl Wood Manse, located, according to some, just outside Minced Forest but indisputably within it, according to others.

Alpin

What do you think? Is this graffito as good as my others?

Arley

I like it. But couldn´t we do something aside from your logo for a change? We always do the same word over and over.

Me gusta.

Alpin

No. We´ll cover the whole wall with my logo. Your sister gave me the magic pencil so I get to decide what gets done. And that will always be my logo, so everyone will know the work is mine.

Arley

My sister lent you the pencil. She didn´t give it to you. She can´t do that. The busker that gave it to her when he left her near the mortal school said he would return for her one day and he might want it back. After all, it is a magic treasure. And… are you sure you want everyone to know you are doing graffiti? If you were mortal, the police would have arrested you by now.

 Minafer Ominous

Hello, children. Brightening up Mr. Binky´s dull wall, eh? That´s pretty. I hope we can get to keep it.

Arley

This wall is Mr. Binky´s? We thought it didn´t belong to anybody. He doesn´t live here, does he?

¿Esta pared es del Sr. Binky? Creíamos que no era de nadie. Él no vive aquí, ¿verdad?

Minafer Ominous / Minafer el Ominoso

Mr. Binky has expropriated this house in ruins and its gardens to build his new school here.

Alpin

Has he paid a fortune for this junk? My nephew gave him a lot of dough. I´d like to know what he’s doing with it.

They say he hasn`t paid a cent. He has expropriated this place, but since nobody knows who the owner is, he hasn’t had to indemnify.

Alpin

That’s much worse than I thought. He must be keeping the money for himself if he doesn’t need to spend it. Speaking of dull walls, this is being a rather dull summer. I´m tired of doing nothing but graffiti. You think you know everything, Ominous. Have you any idea what we could to do liven things up?

Well, you´ve a magic treasure there, I see. That pencil can paint and draw almost anything you are capable of imagining. There are only five like it in fairyland. You could either use it to do something very different, like really cool graffiti in a truly stunning place. Or you could try to find the other four if this one isn´t enough for you. They say that whoever has all five could cover the whole sky with graffiti in less than a night. Imagine the effect the next morning. Something tells me there are magic treasures in the air here. I would check this place out for them. Follow the white brick wall, kids.

Alpin

There you go speaking like an oracle again, Ominous. You really have to do something about your style. It´s very annoying.

Arley, we´re leaving. I just remembered something.

Arley

‘Bye, Mr. Minafer Ominous. Thanks for your suggestions.

Adios, Sr. Minafer Ominoso.

Sometime this summer....we might crawl through a hole in the wall of old, abandoned
Owl Wood Manse.

At least one of the Fay can draw benefit from the past month´s sad encounter with mortals, genuinely convinced that every cloud has a silver lining.

Prime Minister Binky would have liked to announce that he disposed of the money he needed to finance his school in the auditorium of the Royal Library of St. Job, during a great banquet, somewhere between the glamour of the Oscars and the fund-raising potential of the type of party given to raise funds for museums of contemporary art.

But he took too long to organize his fête and Queen Titania refused to participate in an event that should have been held during a month with an “r” in it and not in the middle of a heat wave.

The Lush Leaf Trees / Los Frondosos

Summertime! And the livin' is easy!

¡Es verano! ¡Y la vida es fácil!

So the Light of Understanding Award will first be granted during the Lush Leaf Barbecue, held annually by a club of  trees that take pride in being easy-going and give a lot of shade in summer and a party during the first week of July.

Sir Mungo John Binky

And the tiny tragedy that has so recently occurred is but one more example of the urgent need for a school that will teach humans and fairies to understand each other so that we can advance together in the path towards much desired peace between our peoples.

Hey, little baby, who put that straw helmet over the lump on your little head? What we need is to have everyone see how grave this incident could have been so they will feel moved and become sensitive to the unhappy results provoked by the lack of understanding between -

Valentine and Ibys / Valentina e Ibys

Tee hee!

¡Ji, ji!

Gregoria

What Valentine needs is to look as cute as she can because she´s with her boyfriend.

Titania

Her boyfriend? Our baby has a boyfriend?

¿Su novio? ¿Nuestro bebé tiene novio?

Oberon

Now that you ask, I realize that it must be that kid over there that she is hanging out with. Jeepers! Our little girl must be one of those fairies that are born with a mate. That is why she has paid no attention whatsoever to any of us. That kind of fairy is only interested in his or her better half.

Sir Mungo John Binky

And you can´t see it, but our poor little princess has a lump the size of a golf ball under this straw helmet hat meant to conceal it. This is due to a sordid misunderstanding with the mortals.

But thanks to our very young benefactor, this little knight in sweltering...erh...shining  armour, no evil will ever distress this defenseless little damsel ever again because soon the light of understanding will shine on fairies and humans alike thanks to this generous boy´s magnificent donation and therefore I award him this golden lantern, symbol of blah, blah, blah.

Mrs. Parry to Fiona / La Señora Parry a Fiona

We´ve done it, child. From now on you and your son are do-gooders, both fayphiles and philanthropists. With the money the pirate that ruined your already dubious reputation left you, I have bought you respectability and a place in good society. And what a place! In gratitude, not only has Mr. Binky created an award to give him, but the queen herself is going to make your little boy a knight of the Order of the Hook and Eye. And that though he isn´t even a year old yet. Nobody will dare to cut you from now on.

Gossips who dressed as garlic for Halloween

Weeeell! It looks like we now owe the gangster´s mole and their little biscuit with the questionable but unquestionably protected geographical indication status a big favor. Well, we didn´t ask for no favors, but it looks like we´ll have to eat humble cookie.

¡Bueeeeno!

Titania

We are now related to a biscuit?

¿Hemos emparentado con una galleta?

Oberón

I believe it is worse than that. We are related to the remains of the pirate Boogerbeard. Valentine will insist on being Mrs. Boogerbeardie as soon as she is seven.

Gregoria

Miss Fiona found that little cookie when cleaning the oven that turned Salty Boogerbeard into a gingerbread man.

The oven had no power to destroy what little good there was in that delinquent. It only had power to punish the evil. So Salty´s good side survives in this infant cookie that is as good as gold.

Yes, it is pure kindness. Since Salty had so little good in him, the result is a very little child. But love can grow, so I imagine the cookie will too.

Titania

And why is it – he – named after a pesticide? Don´t tell me that it is because his mother is a blonde and doesn´t know how to write the name of the Egyptian god of intelligence correctly. It so happens I am occasionally a natural blonde myself.

Gregoria

I am always a natural blonde. So that, indeed, cannot be the motive.

Yo soy rubia natural siempre.

Alpin

What is the Order of the Hook and Eye? Do they give one anything worth having?

Arley

A few centuries ago my mum was wearing a dress with a breathtaking neckline. It was held in place by a row of hooks and eyes that went from her waist to the hem of the said neckline. The uppermost of these burst open and…well, a gentleman promptly offered her his cape so she could cover up.  To reward him for his considerate gesture, Mum created the Order of the Knights of the Hook and Eye and made him its first and foremost member. Members get a medal shaped like a hook and eye that they can wear as a bowtie. Look, Mr. Binky is wearing one.

Mira. El Sr. Binky lleva una.

P.M. Mungo John Binky

Well! Everybody is saying I actually look handsome today.

¡Vaya!

Fergus MacLob O’Toora

Only an Englishman would wear clothes like those to a place like this, Binky! And don´t give me the bit about being a citizen of the world! Look at me straw hat and take example, enlightened despot! And get that lad out of the suit of armour, you ninnies! Or does he need to be baked a second time?

Heather, Alpin, Thistle and Arley / Brezo, Alpin, Cardo y Arley

This is a real nice barbecue! We´re mighty glad we came!
