Al Primer Ministro Binky le hubiese gustado anunciar que había conseguido fondos para su escuela en un gran banquete celebrado en el auditorio de la Real Biblioteca del Santo Job. Tenía pensado un evento con todo el glamur de los Óscares y todo el potencial para conseguir todavía más dinero para la causa que tienen los actos celebrados con vistas a recaudar fondos para  Museos de Arte Contemporáneo.

But he took too long to organize his fête and Queen Titania refused to participate in an event that should have been held during a month with an “r” in it and not in the middle of a heat wave.

Miss Fiona found that little cookie when cleaning the oven that turned Salty Boogerbeard into a gingerbread man.

Esa galletita se la encontró la Señorita Fiona al limpiar el interior del horno que convirtió en hombrecillo de pan de jengibre a Saladito Barbamocos.

The oven had no power to destroy what little good there was in that delinquent. It only had power to punish the evil. So Salty´s good side survives in this infant cookie that is as good as gold.

El horno no tenía poder para acabar con lo bueno que había en ese delincuente. Sólo para castigar lo malo. Así que el lado bueno del cafre sobrevive en ese bebé galleta que es más buena que el pan.

Yes, it is pure kindness. Since Salty had so little good in him, the result is a very little child. But love can grow, so I imagine the cookie will too.

Sí, es todo bondad. Como era tan poquito lo que tenía de bueno el tal Saladito,  pues salió un niño muy pequeñito. Pero el amor es capaz de crecer, así que me imagino que la galleta lo hará también.

A few centuries ago my mum was wearing a dress with a breathtaking neckline. It was held in place by a row of hooks and eyes that went from her waist to the hem of the said neckline. The uppermost of these burst open and…well, a gentleman promptly offered her his cape so she could cover up.  To reward him for his considerate gesture, Mum created the Order of the Knights of the Hook and Eye and made him its first and foremost member. Members get a medal shaped like a hook and eye that they can wear as a bowtie. Look, Mr. Binky is wearing one.

 

Hace unos pocos siglos mi madre llevaba un vestido con un escote descomunal. Lo sujetaban unos corchetes que iban de la cintura al escote. El de más arriba estalló, y… bueno, un señor la prestó su capa para que se cubriese. Mamá creo la Orden del Corchete para premiar el gesto tan considerado de este señor, al que nombró  primer caballero de la misma. Te dan una medalla de oro con forma de corchete que pueden llevar como pajarita los miembros de la orden. Mira. El Sr. Binky lleva una.

I did well in confiscating the bag of leftover snacks and candy from those guys’ farewell party. We deserve some compensation. To have dealings with mortals has certainly proved to be a mistake. We´ve certainly established that. Nevertheless, they have rather decent candy. Almost as good as anybody else’s, I dare say.

Hice bien en confiscar el saco de chuches sobrantes de la fiesta de esos mortales. Merecíamos que nos compensasen. Tener tratos con mortales, es, desde luego una equivocación. I don’t know how you can have the stomach to eat anything. I have a knot in my throat that won’t let me swallow even air. What trouble I´ve caused taking the baby for an outing! I´m especially sorry for the genuine buskers and other entertainers in the area. I´m sure we are being searched for and those poor people will be questioned over and over.

The fire I spat on them was special. It was illusive fire. It looks real, and if it burns you, you have all the symptons of authentic burning for about ten to fifteen minutes. But later everything fades away and boils down to nothing. No trace of burns of any degree is left. But, yes, those hooligans will have lost their hair for a while. However, it fell off as a result of the shock they suffered, and for no other reason.

El fuego que escupí es especial. Se llama fuego ilusorio. Parece verdadero, y si te quema, tienes todos los síntomas de una auténtica quemadura durante cosa de diez o quince minutos. Pero luego se va todo y te quedas como si nada. No hay rastro de quemaduras de ningún grado.  Eso sí, a esos gamberros se les ha caído el pelo para rato. Pero ha sido del susto, que no por otra cosa.

As for the rest, once they´ve realized nothing really bad has happened and that the fire was not for real, why, they´ll laugh at those sissies till they split their sides. By the way, why does your sister keep sniffing and smelling Gregoria? There´s nothing strange about her perfume.

Han hecho el ridículo llorando y gritando como bebés. En cuanto a los demás, cuando se les pase la impresión y vean que no les ha ocurrido casi nada  a los dos tontos y que el fuego era de mentirijillas, se van a reír de esas nenazas hasta partirse.  Por cierto, ¿por qué no deja tu hermana de olisquear a Gregoria?
