He came with Death´s coachman, who told me I was a racist for not allowing changelings in my restaurant and who added that if I didn´t take his kid, he would take me for a ride. So I thought it would be prudent to let them in. But when they had finished half of what I had stored in my cupboard, I tried to make them leave. Then Handsome Darcy appeared and asked me very kindly to let his brother finish his lunch, and since there is no saying no to Handsome Darcy…well, they even got me to agree to be paid with one fairy pence, which, as you must know, are inexistent, and only an illusion of the prime minister's! And now what can we do? Go on welfare? Is there fairy welfare?

Vino acompañado por el cochero de la muerte, que me dijo que yo era un racista por no admitir cambiaditos y me dijo que si yo no le dejaba invitar a su hijo él me invitaría a dar un paseo. Así que consideré oportuno dejarles pasar. Pero cuando había terminado con la mitad de las existencias de mi despensa, intenté ponerlos en la calle. Entonces apareció Darcy el Guapo y me pidió amablemente que le dejase terminar de almorzar a su hermanito, y como a ese no hay quien le diga que no… pues hasta lograron que les dejase pagarme con un hada penique, que ya sabes que son inexistentes, sólo un delirio del primer ministro. ¿Y ahora que hacemos? ¿Apuntarnos al paro? ¿Existe el hada paro?

I leave things till the last minute in the hope of not having to give the party. I haven´t got a red cent. I can only pay Santichu with a leprechaun shoe, only one, not even a pair. But it will take him anywhere in a jiffy if he doesn´t mind hopping all the way there.

No me he ocupado porque tenía la esperanza de que este año la fiesta no se celebrase. Si no tengo un céntimo. Sólo puedo pagar a Santichu con un zapato de léprecan, ni siquiera con un par. Pero le llevará a cualquier parte en un abrir y cerrar de ojos si no le importa viajar a la pata coja.

I guess that puts an end to our pea business. Perhaps it is for the best. The girls look awfully ugly with those frightful dark circles under their eyes. You´d think they were scarecrows.

Supongo que esto pone fin a nuestro negocio de guisantes. Quizás sea para bien. Las chicas están feísimas con esas horribles ojeras. Si parecen espantapájaros.

We´ll keep the peas in the safe as if they were emeralds. Sooner or later someone will want them. As for the girls, I told them they could take naps in the afternoons. After all they have nothing better to do. And as for looking like scarecrows, that way we save on Halloween costumes. 

Guardaremos los guisantes en la caja fuerte como si fuesen esmeraldas. Antes o después alguien los querrá. En cuanto a las niñas, ya les dije que podían dormir la siesta. Después de todo no tienen nada mejor que hacer. Y en cuanto a tener aspecto de espantapájaros, pues así ahorramos en disfraces de Halloween.

I´ll start searching for vittles right now. I imagine I will be able to get hold of a few pumpkins, but since it hasn´t rained much, I doubt there will be enough mushrooms and the squirrels must have gathered all the nuts by now.What I can guarantee are the drinks. Alpin didn´t visit my cellar. I have countless varieties of mead and whole barrels of wheat grass juice.

Ahora mismo me pongo a buscar materia prima. Me imagino que podré hacerme con unas cuantas calabazas, pero como no ha llovido mucho, dudo que haya suficientes setas en el bosque y seguro que las ardillas han recolectado ya todas las nueces a estas fechas. Lo que sí te puedo garantizar es la bebida. Alpin no ha entrado en mi bodega. Tengo variedades incontables de hidromiel y barriles enteros de zumo de hierba de trigo.
