Hi. I´m Aries the Ram. I´m the first sign of the zodiac, but somebody on this blog decided to start this year with Aquarius. Still, I´m not sore about that.

Hola. Soy Aries, el carnero. Soy el primer signo del zodiaco pero alguien de este blog decidió empezar el año con Acuario. Pero no estoy enfadado por eso.

I´m a rather special ram not only because I can fly but also because my fleece is golden.

Soy un carnero bastante especial no sólo porque puedo volar sino también porque mi vellocino es de oro.

The kids riding on my back are Helle and Phrixus. They had serious problems back home and I was sent to carry them off to a place where they would be safer.

Los niños montados a mi espalda son Hele y Frixo. Tenían serios problemas en casa y yo fui enviado para transportarles a un lugar más seguro.

In the picture I´m flying over the sea. Little Helle slipped off my back at this spot and we couldn´t pull her out of the water so she had to stay there with the sea nymphs. After that happened, people began to call this part of the sea the Hellespont.

En el dibujo estoy volando sobre el mar. La pequeña Hele se cayó de mi espalda justo en este lugar y no pudimos sacarla del agua así que tuvo que quedarse ahí con las criaturas del mar. Por eso la gente llama a esta region marina el Helesponto.

As for Phrixus, I carried him all the way to Colchis, which is in Asia, where he married the king´s daughter. Since he´d had to leave home in a rush, he didn´t have a thing to offer his father-in-law as a gift except the wool from my back. I agreed to give him my fleece in exchange for a place among the satrs.

En cuanto a Frixo, le llevé hasta Colchis, que está en Asia, donde se casó con la hija del rey. Puesto que tuvo que salir pitando de casa, no tenía nada que pudiese regalar a su suegro excepto mi lana. Yo le cedí mi vellocino a cambio de un lugar entre las estrellas.

King Aeëtes hung my fleece on a tree in the middle of a sacred forest and had an enormous dragon coil around the tree to protect it. He also let wild bulls loose in the fields around the forest for extra protection.

El rey Eetes colgó mi vellocino en una encina en medio de un bosque sagrado e hizo que un enorme dragón rodease el árbol para guardarlo. También soltó toros salvajes por los campos que había alrededor del bosque para mayor protección.

As for me, I got to dwell forever among the stars, but my constellation doesn´t shine very much because I left my glimmering golden fleece in Colchis.

En cuanto a mi, pues he conseguido vivir para siempre entre las estrellas, pero mi constelación no brilla mucho porque dejé mi reluciente vellocino de oro en Colchis.

The drawing below shows the stars in my constellation. My head is made up of four stars that are called Aluathay or Salhay. It´s easier to remember Salhay if you know Spanish because it sounds like you are saying "There is salt."

El dibujo que está debajo muestra las estrellas de mi constelación. Mi cabeza esta compuesta por cuatro estrellas que reciben el nombre de Aluathay o Salhay. Me gusta más Salhay, porque es más fácil de recordar. Sólo tengo que pensar que mi cabeza es muy salada.
