All I do / Lo único que hago

In this post, we present a song that goes very well with the time vocabulary we mean to publish soon. It was the rage in the roaring twenties, became a hit again in the fifties and is still sung today by many singers. You can listen to two different versions of "All I do the whole night through..." here. The first version is more modern. The song is sung by Alexander Rybak, the Norwegian singer and violinist of Bielorussian origin who won the 2009 Eurovision song contest. Since the young man sings very slowly, you can catch every word.

En esta entrada, presentamos una canción que va muy bien con el vocabulario de tiempo que tenemos intención de publicar en breve.  Hizo furor en los años veinte, volvió a triunfar en los cincuenta, y la siguen cantando muchos cantantes actuales. Puedes ver aquí dos videos con versiones distintas de "Lo único que hago durante toda la noche." La primera versión es la más moderna. Es de Alexander Rybak, el cantante y violinista noruego de origen bielorruso que gano Eurovisión en el 2009. Como el chico la canta muy despacito, se entiende todo.

 

The second version belongs to the classic musical film "Singing in the Rain." A group of chorus girls dance and sing this song much more rapidly. And they add a phrase that was in vogue in the twenties, "It's the cat's meow!" It means something is great and irresistible.  

La segunda versión pertenece al musical clásico "Cantando bajo la lluvia." La cantan y bailan unas coristas a ritmo mucho más rápido. Y añaden una expresión que estuvo de moda en los años veinte, "¡Es el maullido del gato!," que significa "¡Es el no va más!"  y también, "¡Es monísimo!"
