Today, I'm reviewing the first, zero and scientific conditionals, soMewHat mIxeD uP!!
¡Hoy voy a repasar el primer condicional, el zero y el científico, pero aLGo rEVuEltos!

Las condicionales tienen dos partes, una que es la condición en sí y otra que es lo que va a suceder si la condición se cumple, es decir, el resultado de que se cumpla la condición.

La condición es fácil de distinguir del resultado, porque va encabezada por “if,” que significa “si.”
Ex. If you study, you will pass the test.
Si estudias, aprobarás el examen.

En el ejemplo de arriba, la condición va delante del resultado. Pero es posible que el resultado vaya delante de la condición, como en el ejemplo de abajo.
Ex. You will pass the test if you study.
Aprobarás el examen si estudias.

Fíjate en que el primer orden lleva coma detrás de la condición. Si el resultado va delante, no hay coma.

En el primer condicional el verbo de la condición va en presente simple, y el verbo del resultado va en futuro, will + forma base del verbo.
Ex. If you study, you will pass the test.
 
La negativa es lo mismo pero con not en la condición.
Examples: If you don’t study, you won’t pass the test.
If you don’t eat, you will die.

PRACTICE:

1. If he _________ (come) by train, I _________ (meet) him at the station.
2. I _________ (buy) the apartment if the bank loans me half the money.
3. She ________ (visit) her mother if you ________(give) her the day off.
4. If you ______ (invite) me to dinner, I _______(tell) you the latest gossip.
5. If you ______(plant)cactuses, you______(not have) to water them a lot.
6. She ________ (not come) to the party if we _________ (not invite) her.

May y might se pueden utilizar en la primera condicional, en lugar de will, sobre todo si hay alguna duda sobre que se produzca el resultado. O sea, cuando el resultado es un poco incierto.
Ex. If it is sunny tomorrow, we may / might go to the beach.
Si mañana hace sol, puede que vayamos a la playa.

Algunas condiciones tienen un resultado tan seguro que no hace falta usar will. Sólo se pone el verbo en presente simple en la claúsula de resultado. Algunos las llaman las condicionales científicas o las condiconales zero.
Ex. If you mix blue and yellow, you (will) get green.
En estas condicionales se puede usar when en vez de if.
When / If you don’t eat, you (will) die.
When / If you don't swim, you (will) eventually sink.

If a young man chooses the wrong door, a tiger devours him.

If he chooses the right door, he marries a beautiful woman.
And...
If a princess doesn't help her lover, a tiger will devour him.
If she helps her lover, she will lose him to a hated rival.
So...

Si un joven elige la puerta equivocada, un tigre le devora.  

Si este joven elige la puerta correcta, se casa con una mujer hermosa.
Y...
Si una princesa no ayuda a su amante, le devorará un tigre.
Si ella ayuda a su amante, lo perderá y él será para una rival odiada.
Así que...

Ojo: Las zero pueden utilizarse en pasado.
If the children were quiet, they stayed up late.
Si los niños no metían ruido, se iban a la cama tarde.

También se puede usar el imperativo en el primer condicional.
Ex. If you fix the apartment, paint it blue.
Si arreglas el apartamento, píntalo de azul.

Unless significa “a no ser que.” Se puede utilizar en vez de “if not,” que significa “si no.” Hacer los cambios necesarios para pasar de "if" a "unless" es cuestión de sentido común. Y el sentido común suele funcionar igual en inglés que en español.
Examples:
If you don’t study, you won't pass the test.
Si no estudias, no aprobarás el examen.
Unless you study, you won’t pass the test.
A no ser que estudies, no aprobarás el examen.
If it doesn´t rain tomorrow, I will go sailing.
Si no llueve mañana, iré a navegar.
I will go sailing tomorrow unless it rains.
Iré a navegar mañana a no ser que llueva.
