We know that adjectives are often followed by prepositions. Let´s review some common examples.

Sabemos que los adjetivos con frecuencia van seguidos de preposiciones. Repasemos unos ejemplos corrientes.

ABOUT:
angry about, excited about, happy about, upset about, worried about,
They were angry about the new tax.
Estaban enfadados por el nuevo impuesto.
She was excited about being invited to the party.
Estaba muy ilusionada por haber sido invitada a la fiesta.
Veronica was happy about her raise.
Verónica estaba contenta por su subida de sueldo.
They were very worried about their child’s violent behavior.
Estaban muy preocupados por el comportamiento violento de su hijo.

AT:
good at, bad at, hopeless at, great at, wonderful at
Jack is very good at playing cards. Juanito juega muy bien a las cartas.
Ed is hopeless at repairing cars. Edu es negado reparando coches.

BY:
shocked by, impressed by, surprised by, amazed by, repulsed by, disgusted by, stunned by,
They were shocked by the way Adrian shouted at his parents.
Estaban escandalizados por la forma en que Adrián gritaba a sus padres.
The doctor was surprised by the lack of interest the Browns showed in their child’s health.
El médico se sorprendió por la falta de interés que los Brown mostraron por la salud de su hijo.
Mr. Kajita was impressed by Anne’s command of Japanese.
El Sr. Kajita estaba impresionado por lo bien que Ana hablaba japonés.
They were amazed by the tenor’s wonderful voice.
Quedaron epatados por la maravillosa voz del tenor.
They were repulsed by the disgusting food served at that restaurant.
Se sintieron repugnados por la comida asquerosa que servían en aquel restaurante.
The guests were stunned by how beautiful the bride looked in her wedding gown.
Los invitados quedaron estupefactos al ver lo guapa que estaba la novia con su traje de boda.

FOR:
angry with (someone) for (something), sorry for (something), responsible for, sorry for (something or someone), remembered for, known for, famous for, notorious for, good for, bad for,
They were very angry with Bill for not having invited them to his wedding.
Estaban enfadados con Bill por no haberles invitado a su boda.
Sylvia was sorry for not having phoned her parents before leaving for Mallorca.
Silvia estaba arrepentida de no haber llamado a sus padres antes de irse a Mallorca.
I’m sorry for Martha. I wish she had passed her driving test.
Lo siento por Marta. Ojalá hubiese aprobado su examen de conducir.
A drunken driver was responsible for the accident.
Un conductor borracho era responsable del accidente.
Wellington is remembered for having defeated Napoleon at Waterloo.
Wellington es recordado por haber derrotado a Napoleón en Waterloo.
Our butler is good for nothing. The housekeeper does all the work.
Nuestro mayordomo es un inútil (no sirve para nada). El ama de llaves hace todo el trabajo.
Smoking is bad for your health. Fumar es malo para la salud.

FROM:
ill from, tired from, blue from
She was ill from having drunk polluted water.
Estaba enferma por haber tomado agua contaminada.
The child’s face was blue from the cold.
La cara del niño estaba azul (morada, según nosotros) del frío que hacía.

IN:
interested in, disappointed in, involved in,
We aren’t interested in football. No nos interesa el fútbol.
We are disappointed in you. Nos has decepcionado.
He was involved in the crime. Él estaba implicado en el crimen.

OF:
stupid of, kind of, sweet of, nice of, clever of,
It was clever of her to buy that car when it was on sale.
Fue inteligente por su parte comprar ese coche cuando estaba en rebajas.
It was stupid of Jane to go out without an umbrella. It was obvious it would rain.
Jane fue tonta al salir sin un paraguas. Era evidente que iba a llover.
It was kind of Peter to lend us his truck so we could move the furniture to our new office.
Fue amable por parte de Pedro prestarnos su camioneta para que pudiésemos trasladar los muebles a nuestra nueva oficina.


OF:
Proud of, ashamed of, afraid of, aware of, bored of, fond of,
John is very proud of his family. His father is related to the queen.
Juan está muy orgulloso de su familia. Su padre es pariente de la reina.
The little girl is afraid of the dark. La niña tiene miedo de la oscuridad.
James is aware of the gossip about his wife.
Jaime está enterado de los chismes que cuentan sobre su mujer.
Frank is ashamed of being an ex-convict.
Paco está avergonzado de ser un ex-convicto.
Brad is bored of always making the same kind of movies.
Brad está aburrido de hacer siempre la misma clase de películas.
Arthur is fond of his nephews.
Arturo siente cariño por (está encariñado con) su sobrinos.
Jane is fond of sweets. A Juana le gustan mucho los dulces.

ON: keen on, sweet on
They are keen on bird watching.  Les entusiasma observar a los pájaros.
They are keen on tap dancing.  Les priva bailar claqué.
She is so sweet on Matt it is obvious he is her favorite grandson.
Trata tan bien a Mateo que es evidente que él es su nieto favorito.

TO:
Nice to, kind to, rude to, sweet to, good to, mean to, cruel to, married to, engaged to,
She is very kind to children. / Ella es muy amable con los niños.
He was really mean to his stepchildren.
El era realmente desagradable con sus hijastros.
The student was rude to the teacher when she told him he had to come to class more often.
El estudiante fue grosero con la profesor cuando ella le dijo que él tenía que asistir a clase con más frecuencia.
The guards were cruel to the prisoners.
Los guardias eran crueles con los prisioneros.
Louis is married to Clara.  Luis está casado con Clara.
They are engaged to be married. Ellos están prometidos para casarse.

TO:
used to, accustomed to, addicted to,
She is used to waking up early. Está acostumbrada a despertarse temprano.
Tom is addicted to caffeine. Tom es adicto a la cafeina.

TO:
opposed to
These activists are opposed to the death penalty.
Estos activistas están en contra de la pena de muerte.

WITH:
Angry with, pleased with, satisfied with, bored with, disappointed with, upset with, fed up with, disgusted with,
Patty was angry with Susan because Susan had stolen her boyfriend.
Pati estaba enfadada con Susana porque Susana le había robado el novio.
Leslie was disappointed with the result of the test she took yesterday.
Leslie estaba decepcionada con el resultado del examen que hizo ayer.
I am satisfied with the way things have turned out.
Estoy satisfecha con la manera en que han salido las cosas.
Sandra was bored with her life at the farm.
Sandra estaba aburrida con su vida en la granja.

I'm proud of you both, but I'm not surprised by the results. I know you are keen on learning. What I'm worried about is where the toy leprechaun on my cake may have gone.

Estoy orgulloso de vosotros dos, pero no estoy nada sorprendido por los resultados. Sé que estáis muy interesados en aprender. Sólo estoy preocupado por la desaparición de la figurita de leprecán que decoraba mi tarta.
